Which was the best year for Trance music?

Coz for me it would have to be 1998/beginning of 1999 when I first got into it, with tunes like Energy 52, Gouryella, Veracocha, Greece 2000 etc.:D

I know that all these tunes arent exact for when there were around, but its when I remember them!:p

No offence but...DARUDE???? That's not trance!

I think tunes like Rank 1 - Airwave and 4 strings into the night have been so overplayed and remixed to death.

99 was a good year for epic, a lot of awesome tracks came out. But I would say this year is shaping up to be mint. "Marc Dawn - Expander (Flutlicht mix)" and "Future Force - Euphoria" are catchy tunes that I'm loving at the moment. Then you've got some excellent use of synths, like "Das Licht - Take Off" and "Cosmic Gate - The Truth".

I think things are shaping up to be class this year! Can't wait for summer!

has to be pre 96 :p

Commander Tom - Are Am Eye <-- Think this is one of the first ever hard tarnce record and in my eyes is soooo much better than most the shti today :D
Cosmic Baby - Spacetrack fuck your airwaves and shit, by far one of the greatest trance tunes ever
Astral Projection - People Can Fly <-- ditto
    Transformation - Transform <-- ditto
Cafe del Mar - Energy 52 (dj kid paul mix) <-- still doesn't sound outdated
Future sound of London - Papa New guinea <-- ditto
Orbital - Halcyon + On + On <-- touches you like modern parpy trance can't
    Orb - Blue Room
    LSG - Fragile
Opus III - Its A Fine Day <-- cheesey trance at tis best
Meltdown - My Life is in Your Hands <-- ditto
Hallucinogen - LSD <-- talk about fucking goosebumps and tingles :D
    Doof - lets Turn On
Doof - Youth of the Galaxy

although 2000 was the year of trance, the greatest trance tunes were made years ago so ner :p

there are just as much good trance now as there was 3-4 years ago if not better the stuff is just getting harder and so much more uplifting its just that 98-99 are classics and they have a place in peoples hearts but i agree the trance classics are awsome but so are the tunes that are getting produced now.:D

'96-'98 were great years, with the likes of Body Shine etc, but I think that from '99 until late last year everything got way too samey - formula trance. Can't stand the likes of Gouryella etc personally. Things are getting better again as it is hardening up and getting away from all the really floaty stuff.

I think much of the harder (and better) tuneage is coming out this year and last. I don't think the old anthemy tunes can compete with more recent tunes.

Take for example some of the harder tunes:

Chris Leibing - CLR 01 Gaetano Parisio mix)
X900 - Viva la Revolution (club mix)
    Russenmafia - Alarm
    Raptor - Brain Damage

I'll grant you, epic has had it's day, and great melodic tracks are becoming hard to find (check out "Future Force - Euphoria" as a recent exception). But hard trance is better than ever IMO.
