I have confidence in her Joe, and believe me, I know how publicity works.
It's not necessarily always about her needing them more than they need her. She was approached compeltely out of the blue about this :)

Honestly Joe, if you're going to talk down to me, please choose something you actually know more than me about :D

I know how publicity works, I know how this industry works, thank you very much.

The example I gave earlier of me playing, say, a Hard Trance set at Promise, and that being about as far as you can get from my usual Deep House sound, is very relevant to this situation.

    Think about it Joe :)

Ok, sorry, wasn't meant to sound as arrogant as it did.

I don't know the ins and outs of the industry, but I'll guarantee I have more of a clue than Joe :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Breaks anyone?

If you know so much about publicity why are you still a bedroom dj?

Allie your extremely pretentious for a bedroom dj, do you realise how silly you look when you go on like this?

Lets look at the facts not your school boy theories.

FACT: If she played a good set, a shit load of people would of been introduced to her.

FACT: If she played a good set, more promoters would be aware of her - creating more oppertunities for her to play gigs that her more her scene.

FACT: If she played this set her peers would respect her for being a versatile dj, purists are a thing of a past - if she can shocase a high skill level in more than one genre it commands respect.

This all really boils down to whether she'd play a good set or not as I've never heard her I can't say - but if it was my bitch I'd have far more confidence in her than you :D

Now in your next post try not to patronise/blow your own trumpet and just tell me what harm would come of her playing this gig?

If you don't think she's good enough thats another kettle of fish :D

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Breaks anyone?

Joe, you seem to keep bringing up the point of me being a 'bedroom DJ' as if I'm supposed to take some kind of offence at it?

Would you like to know how many demo CDs I've given out in the whole 4 years I've been DJing? One.
Would you like to know how many attempts I've made at getting a 'recognisable' gig? One, the same one.

Indeed, I would take offence at that if I'd actually tried to get somewhere and failed, but I haven't, and I haven't :D

You put a night on, so that makes you clued up? Please, do you know how many people put nights on?!
I could name you about 5 people I know off the top of my head that've put nights on, that've failed. That means fuck all :)

I'd love to stay and continue this 'debate', but there's not really much point, is there? :spangled:

Edit: Oh, and the gig in question, I got, rather easily :)

Allie I'm not trying to offend you I'm pointing out you've had little experience.

I see you took a lot of time not to reply to the only question that really mattered, which will hopefully tell amy one thing :D

And I'm sure you are as great as you claim - can't wait to tell my grandkids that I once argued with "the allie" many years ago - they'll be so impressed.

I'VE JUST READ THIS EPIC ARGUMENT FROM START TO FINISH AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT JOE HAS MADE SOME EXCELLENT POINTS AND HAS FOLOWED THESE WITH RELEVANT AND SPECIFIC ARGUMENTS. I WOULD TEND TO AGREE WITH HIM ON THE WHOLE. I BELIEVE THAT DJ'S WHO PIDGEON HOLE THEMSELVES RESTRICT THEIR CHANCES OF GETTING GIGS NOWADAYS.FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS DJ'S NEEDED TO SPECIALIZE TO FALL INTO THE RELEVANT 'SUPERCLUB' GENRE, SINCE THE FALL OF THE 'SUPERCLUBS' OR RATHER THE EVOLUTION OF THE CLUBS INTO BRANDS I THINK THAT DJ''S WITH A MORE BALEARIC STYLE AND VERSATILITY WILL DEFINATELY BE ABLE TO RISE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
AT LEAST I HOPE SO ANYWAY COZ I AIN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET MANY GIGS FOR LOVE NOR MONEY, AND I HAVE A SHEDLOAD OF EXPERIENCE BOTH HERE AND ABROAD, UNFORTUNATELY I DON'T HAVE MANY CONTACTS IN NEWCASTLE.
AMY, BE VERSATILE, TRY ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING, YOU MAY TURN OUT TO BE A BETTER BREAKS DJ THAN WITH THE GENRE YOU PLAY NOW.OAKENFOLD IS A HIP HOP DJ A HEART AND EVERY OTHER BIG NAME DJ STARTED OFF PLAYING WHAT WAS NEEDED RATHER THAN WHAT THEY WANTED.
    TO BE CONTINUED.....MAYBE!! :D :D :D

All this from one little question

ANYWAY... I've just had a big chat to a lovely friend of mine who quite often plays breaks, and he's going to help me with this demo.

Its not a case of having to pull off a live gig, one 30 minute demo, breaks style (or breaksy sounding) and the rewards will be more than worth it, so I'm going to give it a go.

Might not suceed, but no harm in spending a few sessions trying, so why not :p

What's the harm in trying something new? I remember when all I would play is drum and bass and everything else was crap. I get really pissed off with people who think they know more than what they do. This isn't directed at anyone here as I don't know you guys. What I can see is that Amy asked for advice about breaks. Amy try it - if it's something that you're not suited to accept it and return to what you normally play. If it suits your style then give it a go, maybe even stick it into your sets. What I've learnt in my short DJ career is listen to people by all means but always make the decision that suits you. Don't let people push or pigeonhole you into playing a particular style. These days eclectic sets are the way forward.
