messenger service i don't know how many people out there are running windows XP,2000,98(mainly XP) but i kept having a problem with pop-up's and no ammount of pop up stopping software would stop them. does anyone else have this problem???? well if you do i have found the soloution so i thaught i would post it so everyone that has this problem can stop it. the reason it gets thru all the pop up software is because it is part of windows.(surely this can't be legal) if you go to the start menu and click on run then type in services.msc and run scroll down till you find a file called messenger and double click on it click on the button that says STOP and on the drop down bar above select disable and then press apply this stops most of the annoying ads
SpyBot - Search and Destroy... best set of tools for keeping your PC clean ive seen - plus, you can download updates to keep on top of the new pests.
thats the thing they don't work on this because its PART of windows XP its basically a back door to you comp which microsoft give the details to the person that is going to give them the most money the reason these adware stoppers don't find it is that the thing that is causing it is meant to be there so the adware stopper doesnt notice anything odd
No No, it is not a backdoor for Microsoft to get one up on the consumer. The messenger service is there to alert you with informative 'pop-ups' (No, not the annoying advert kind), things like your anti-virus software or your print spooler (printing management). The downside is that you can invoke the service remotely and there is no default block on it. In all fairness, most people won't miss the service if it is stopped and disabled. Just thought I would clear up an issue, ie. the Microsoft backdoor. It could, however, be classed as a backdoor for advertisers as they have another way to display adverts to the consumer.
