Hong Kong Utd Newcastle United says it is working on plans with China's Dalian United to form a new club in Hong Kong to compete next season. The premier league club's chairman Freddy Shepherd outlined the proposal during a news conference in Malaysia, where Newcastle are competing in a pre-season tournament. "The deal is an alliance with Dalian from the Chinese League to form Hong Kong United for next season," Shepherd said. He said Newcastle would run the business the side, while Dalian would handle the administration, registering the new club with the Chinese Football Association. Shepherd declined to reveal Newcastle's investment in the deal. Newcastle are in Malaysia for the four-cornered FA premier League Asia Cup.
Is it worth the hassle? If it means 1% of the Chinese population become part the TOON army then it will be.
we should see if they'll sign us. get some geordie spirit in the team!! they'd love us for it *dreams*
It good to see that Newcastle are now beginning to be on par with Man Utd in terms of promoting the team in the Far East. It is the only way that the club will expand. Shephard is also currently searching for a club to buy down under.
We should buy a local small club and use them as feeder club, that red white team which is having a bit of money trouble would be ideal.
lol it'll probably increase the amount of merchandise and revenue for Newcastle so it can only be a good thing!!! unless their shite!!!
