    Oakey to play Shack

Know its a long way off but Oakey is to play Sugar Shack (It's on their website) on the 29th August, the day I get back from Ibiza so will probably be too done in to go. At least he's playing Amnesia the night before.

My honest opinion is the guy is well over rated. Struggles to mix throughout his sets and totally loves himself behind the decks.

His GU was immense and so were some of his sets late 90's however he believed his own hype.

I've seen him so many times, although admittedly not recently and he bashes anthems constantly.

He also cashed in on the commercial side of the scene so many times - Bullet in the gun, Stary eyed surprise....

Slate me if you like but it's my honest opinion, one shared by many. :(

If you haven't seen him you'll enjoy it though as his name creates atmosphere and hype alone.

I know what you mean but anyone who saw him in the late 90's will always have a space in their heart for him. He's not the DJ he used to be - I think now he does the opposite and hardly plays any anthems - plays slower, deeper stuff now.
I know you get lots of classics nights now but how much would you give for an Oakey late 90's courtyard set

That's a fair point as the courtyard was a special venue and Oakey did without doubt light it up during his residency!!!

I remember one time seeing him at pacha though and he was dreadful, bopping about the box with his hands in the air as if he was the messiah. I actually found it quite amusing as all the spaniards and foreigners couldn't give a toss who it was.

Oakey will always be a legend, no matter what he does from now. For a few years he was untouchable and totally raised the profile and status of DJ's. Whether that was a good thing is open to debate

Yeah - the hype is better than the mans sets... i remember see'ing him at the union back in 98-99 and saw him at sugar shack once also... his sets were average at best - we all loved him though cause of his profile.

These days he plays some of the most out of date stuff ive ever heard... his homelands set was more of an informertial for his label and productions, than an actual set... 5/6 of the tracks were his own productions, he was double beating on 2 of them at least - and mixed on the end of a track which ruined the flow of the set..

No personal offence to the guy, but he moved off the the usa,... made a ton of cash bringing old age trance to their virgin ears - but the UK scene moved on and developed, he just sounds out of date.

Its a pity.. i used to love the guys music and sets... his essential mix Goa Trance mix, and his other global underground cd's were all amazing...

........ just my own opinion of course, not wanting to step on anyones toes.

in an interview, he said he was gonna concentrate more on "Live Sets" ie using samplers, synths etc. on stage... should be interesting, wonder how he got on at Crasher, London tonite, but then then the london crowd is largely made of of tourists who (no offence) arent so clued up on the uk trance scene.
