exactly, take Eddie Halliwell... if it wasnt for the board, he wouldnt have played at Promise so early in his "A-List DJ" DJing career... and everyone (the promise crowd on a friday) loved it!

There is also a difference, sometimes subtle, between narrow-mindedness (often destructive), and opinionated (often constructive), its just some people cant differentiate between the two...

without the board most the people wouldn't of met... the first meet-up's introduced most of us too each other....

most groups of friends have met each other via the board or through meet-ups.

this messageboard attracts far more people than it scares away.

people can make friends before even venturing to the club and instead of maybe meeting someone once a month you get to talk to them everyday.

    Some good points! [IMG]

But how do you stop a place becoming a tourist attraction?

Unfortunately, the whole clubbing scene has a whole seems to be moving away from bigger nights - people have too much choice nowadays and if they probs don't go to Promise because they can see the DJ they want to elsewhere, rather than go see someone who probablt doesnt really interest them.

It's no-one's fault as suchm it's just the way things are going!

I personally think people are tiring of trance and hard house.

Even in newcastle r n b nights like love dough pull 2000-3000 punters every week...

Think trance has seen its day.

    IMO

Trance has been a victim of its own success. Like loadsa other stuff it got too big and became all about easy money. It was as it's peak IMO about 4-5 years ago when anthems like 'Out of the Blue' etc were getting made. As it was so popular in clubs and it crossed-over, this style of music was gradually copied and trance became mostly a bit formula book. There's only so many times you can make a diesent song with the same formula. People saw this as a chance to make easy money from the charts, copying ideas and making progressively worse songs. Even within the chart type trance songs you can see the standard gradually get shitter ie in order (not sure exact order)Out of the Blue, then 4 years ago William Orbit 'Barber adagio...', then des mitchell, then atb, then alice fuckin deejay then some more shit till we get to the crap that is around today ie flip n fill (no i know this isn't proper tracnce but i doubt if it would have been made if trance hadn't got so popular 4/5 years ago). But the fact is with a bit of marketing and airplay these songs will sell generating lots of money for the businessmen marketing managers and untalented but good-looking performers behind them. It's also become uncool to like trance which may explain a bit why the big clubs have gone downhill. And so less diesent trance records are being made so its harder for trance DJ's and trance clubs to do well. some trance dj's now adding bits of techno to their sets etc.

anyway IMO trance got too big for it's own good, became more about money and selling records to general public which made quality of stuff deterioate, still some good stuff and still very talented DJ's but it's harder to pull a crowd- partly because not seen as cool as it was.

similar to hard house but to a lesser extent as wasn't as 'big' so fall less dramatic..

    :) :) :)

Genres come and go as fashions change, its got nothing to do with trance been over exposed its been around for almost 15 years, its simply gone out of fashion... there'll always be room for underground trance clubs (as there are still mod clubs, northern soul clubs, swing clubs, etc.) but it will never be what it was.... people move on.

Maybe so. Maybe it's because, if we're honest (and I'm not trying to be funny) trance isn't as good as it used to be!

Too many producers are churning out tune after tune that just sounds the same, plus there's not that much quality there!

When trance was fresh, the music was something different and producers worked harder and made unique sounding stuff!

It's not surprising people are getting fed up when the whole production side of things seems to be getting lazy.

To be honest mate I haven't heard any good trance since the likes of space manoeuvres, mara - one, Grace - not over yet...

It got destroyed in 1999 - I thought that GC Lotherton Hall was it's peak and it was a steady decline from there.

As you said it got too formulaic and predictable. Mash ups and continues remixes get as dull as hearing Abba or Greece melodies. It seems from reading that it has all got harder now. Scott Project for example being similar to old skool gabber, wtf!!

I think it's still pretty popular. I haven't been since NYD but it was rammed then, was very enjoyable. I think Sundis used to be a bit of a cult to some people..
