Look I might be barking up the wrong tree here but what i'm trying to say is dig a bit deeper and you will find a wealth of quality subversive, underground house.

I believe house music should be challenging and fresh and the sound ploughed by subliminal records is about as fresh as the lettuce on a big mac.

Admittedly Eric Morillo is technically good, but he plays standard funky house tracks. If that's all that is of interest to you then he's the man.

    Peace

if he plays good tunes, then surely its good to see him every now an then? its one thing sayin you should have diversity in music, and diversity is usually a good thing, but just cos the tunes played arent diverse dont mean that it cant be good fun...

    Amen.

I know exactly the stuff you mean fella, but to be honest, we don't really have a scene for it in Newcastle. Shindig, many years ago, used to provide this sound. Was very underground and featured the world's top udnerground DJs. Since then however, club culture has gone 'BOOM!', and now everyone wants to be there. If Shindig need to bring in 3 DJs of a month of average quality, like Morillo, Tim Deluxe and the like, to bring one quality booking a month like Digweed or XPress 2, then so be it.

The scene for the kinda stuff you're on about is massive in Manchester and pretty big in Liverpool too, and of course Leeds. Nights like Basics and Tribal Sessions/Red Light, with DJs like Yousef, Paul Woolford, Greg Vickers and Krysko push it religiously. XPress 2 played a lot of house of this 'ilk' last night, and for the the first time in a while, brough real house music back to Shindig.
It would go down well in Shindig, but I don't think it'd get as many people through the doors. People know the names of Tim Deluxe and Jose nunez, but the names of Paul Woolford, Derrick Carter, Jay Tripwire, Chris Lum, Miguel Migs and the like only realy do anything for the more clued-up crowd.

Definately something I'd like to see (or hear) more of in Shindig though :)

I sick of having to travel south (or north for that matter) to stay out ALL night and here QUALITY music. People up here settle for listening to sub-standard house because they're never exposed to the real deal.

    Demand to be challenged

Oh and Billy mate I said Morillo has good technique not that he plays good tracks. Good mixing, standard records geddit?

course i fucking got it  what i was saying is, the tunes he plays might not be 'diverse' but some of us love the tunes he plays - and no, that doesnt mean we are blinded to other forms of music, id love to see derrick carter play shindig and im gutted i had to come home from uni the day xpress2 was on.

my point was, just cos music isnt 'diverse' or for the more 'clued-up' clubber, its doesnt make it any less valid. get that?

Would be nice to see Miguel Migs at Shindig mind, but I don't think he'd pull a big enough crowd in.

Bar King Unique and joeski i'd certainly check this rest out.

Oh and billy can we clear the Morrilo/Nunez issue up. I'm not trying to say the music isn't valid just that it's standard issue straight-up funky house. Demand more from your local 'underground' night even if only once a month
