My point exactly! It doesn't matter what style of music, the majority of clubbers up here will only go to what they already know. There are exceptions of course, otherwise there would be no other nights whatsoever, but it is very hard to get a decent crowd at anything other than the norm.

Why don't you try the back room at Promise - it means you can try out a bit of the funky stuff, but if you don't enjoy it just go back downstairs! Best of both worlds. :)

    Re: Re: shit..

yeah but if you notice, it includes 2 promise residents and one regular, it seems that the shack's way of getting people back there is to put the same line ups as promise and hope the local people will go there instead of promise....

back to the original point of the thread, Newcastle isnt a big clubbing city its only over the last 3 years that there has been a big rise in the amount of people in the club scene IMO, i dont see enough people in newcastle to keep HH/trance nights going unfortunatly, the only way i see nights like these working is by starting really small and working up....

I am not going to dwell on the state of Newcastle's club land too much, but I truely think that Newcastle is just too small a city, and people are stuck in there ways!!

I have been there and done it, and no amount of publicity, flyers etc. will get people to go to your night if you dont have that "mass market appeal."

Maybe I am just getting cynical in my old age but for all everyone talks about a thriving underground scene in Newcastle, there isn't really, which is why I find myself promoting nights in a different city.....

On the flip side of the coin it can't be all that bad cause I am still here in sunny Newcastle.

yeah i know and unfortuantly that is a problem, world hq is quality venue for local nights, but i heard awhile back that thats closing aswell, opening up in a new venue, But that could be someone getting it mixed up with satelite...

World HQ is shutting and they are moving to a new venue somewhere down by swan house. I think it is happening at the end of the year but like everything the date keeps getting put back. I heard the venue is going to be bigger which could kill the whole world hq vibe.....

yeah thats my feeling aswell, its definatly going to lose the feel that it had....
the only plus point that i heard is that one floor will have a sort of stage area which will be able to put on live acts aswell

i think its moving to where the old bus depot and taxi rank is round from the fire station..

never truer words spoken - to run a decent night u need to be prepared to lose money for the first 6- 12 months or something.. thats a lot of cash
ppl do get spoiled.... all the regs incl me used to wet their pants over guy ornadel... i bet there's no one there for him next week (which is a shame cos i personally think hes a legend)

    WTF are you laughing at?

What I was trying to say was that if you're not a fan of trance, you're very limited as to where you can go clubbing. Up here, you've got Promise and Shindig, that's about it. We had the debate about the Playrooms closing and what a loss to the city it was.

Do you know of any decent HH or Techno nights etc in a major club up in Newcastle? There are none I'm aware of. I can just about bare going clubbing and having to listen to trance more for the reason that there's fook all variety up here than anything else. You've got trance or that cheesy Baja stuff, that's about it. HH, techno and stuff like that IMO is diverse music for a large number of narrow minded clubbers up here.

Places like Trading play different, more diverse styles of music, other than the average run of the mill trance stuff that seems to be played at most venues up here, Promise included, though, admittedly, to a lesser extent.

People are far too set in their ways, that's why new club nights do not get the support they deserve. I think you would find people would enjoy the different styles if they actually gave them a chance without dismissing them as rubbish without even trying them. I was guilty of this a while back. I hated the thought of HH until I was forced to go to a HH night. Grudgingly, I went and fooking LOVED every minute!

Musical taste is subjective, each to their own, I'd never knock anyone elses tastes in the same way I'd not want them to knock mine.
