Digital Society NE catches up with John OO Fleming

    DS.NE
Afternoon John many thanks for taking the time to speak to us this afternoon, where does DS.NE find you today?
    JOOF:
Stuck in the studio, hungry, haven't seen anyone for days, haven't seen daylight and need water!

    DS.NE
As we fast approach our launch event of Digital Society North East on April 1st, there's been a huge buzz building around the whole Warehouse concept which will be our home for all future North East based events, were just as excited as everyone else about having you up here, how does it feel to be back up in the 'Toon' ?
    JOOF:
I've always had a great following in Newcastle. I love the crowd here, they are so enthusiastic and lively. I have a close connection with the northern because I am a original from the north, this alone gets me excited to 'come home'. The warehouse project concept sounds awesome, taking things back to the roots of dance music.

    DS.NE
You've featured up here in Newcastle a number of times now, any stand out gig's or funny stories you'd like to share with us during your stay?
    JOOF:
I used to play at Promise many many times, and had loads of wonderful nights there. Probably one of the best days of the Newcastle scene for Trance music, really was a wonderful crowd there. Ask the former promoter about funny stories!!!

    DS.NE
Were currently holding a DJ competition to offer all budding DJ's/Artists the chance to feature at our launch event on April 1st, what's the 1 piece of advice you could give to any up & coming DJ/Producer?
    JOOF:
Don't be a sheep and copy everyone else or your hero DJ's. Be original and play the music you love and you'll stand out.

    DS.NE:
What's been happening in the studio? any projects we should keep an eye out for?
    JOOF:
Eventually I'll have my debut artist album ready for release in August...waahooo!! Yes it's taken me years to get this done, but I got sidetracked with two 00.db artist albums (double CD's) over the past few years. I also work alone in the studio, so I fight for studio time.
I'm sooooo happy with the album, a whole mixture music on there I'm so proud.

    DS.NE:
You've worked with a number of high profile Artists over the years, is there any particular Artist(s) still on your 'wish list' ?
    JOOF:
I've already worked with my hero Jean Michele Jarre, so that's a difficult one to top! The Prodigy would defiantly be on my hit list.

    DS.NE
Outside of your studio schedule and gig's what do you get up to in your spare time?
    JOOF:
Cars are my second passion. I buy cars and personalize them (not in bling pimp my ride way) in a classy way as if it was from the factory. Once I get my hit, I have to move on to the next one!

    DS.NE
You've been DJ'ing all over the Globe recently, what's the 1 track that's been getting a huge reaction from the dancefloor ?
    JOOF:
A Dj never gives away his trade secrets!

    DS.NE
Tell us 1 track your definitely going to play on April 1st?
    JOOF:
One of my trade secrets! :)

    DS.NE:
Finally and for the purpose of our wider audience, what can we look forward to hearing from you on the night?
    JOOF:
Everyone singing happy birthday to me....yes I'm an April fool!
Cheers John, see you April 1st! and we'll have a birthday drink waiting!

Digital Society NE catches up with Jon O'Bir

    DS.NE

Afternoon Jon, many thanks for taking the time to speak to us this afternoon, where does DS.NE find you today?
JOB: I’m at home in sunny Manchester today, doing the usual Tuesday A&R, Admin work, nothing exciting! Off to spring clean the CD case when I get through today’s admin, well in need of a clean that’s for sure.

    DS.NE

JOB: I always look forward to a gig in Newcastle, there is a special atmosphere in the North East and it really shows at trance events. Every visit I’ve ever made to Newcastle has been a memorable one and I know this event will be right up there with the best of them.

    DS.NE
You've featured up here in Newcastle a number of times now, any stand out gig's or funny stories you'd like to share with us during your stay?

JOB: I have fond memories of Godskitchen at Metro Arena. The big Gods arena events used to be amazing, lazers, 8,000 people having a great time, good memories! A mention of Foundation also, what a night that was! Of recent, Digital, Newcastle has been one of my favourite nights. May DS at Warehouse continue the list of quality parties in Newcastle!

    DS.NE

Were currently holding a DJ competition to offer all budding DJ's/Artists the chance to feature at our launch event on April 1st, what's the 1 piece of advice you could give to any up & coming DJ/Producer?
JOB: Entering a competition is how it all started for me back in 2002! I ended up winning the Passion comp and it all snowballed from there. If it can happen to me, it can happen to you, never give up on your dream. I highly recommend entering a competition such as this, you never know who’s listening at these things!

    DS.NE
What's been happening in the studio? any projects we should keep an eye out for?

JOB: I’ve been working hard on the next artist album, almost reached the half way point regarding tracks made and I hope to get this finished summer time, for an end of year release. The first single from the new album will be due out on 26th April and it’s a collab with Sonic Element who provides a stunning vocal on the track. My latest remix of ‘Blackboard’ by Mark Eteson is currently out now and sits in the beatport top 10 at this moment I’m answering these questions, thanks for the support to all who have purchased!

    DS.NE
You've worked with a number of high profile Artists over the years, is there any particular Artist(s) still on your 'wish list'?
JOB: It’s been an honor to work with guys such as Gareth Emery, Activa and Airwave, very proud of these collabs. There’s still a few on the wish list, guys such as John O’Callaghan, Andy Moor and Arty come to mind, would be cool to sort something out with one or more of these guys.

    DS.NE

Outside of your studio schedule and gig's what do you get up to in your spare time?

JOB: I love sports, on Tuesday I don my boots and get stuck into 5-a-side football, really enjoy letting off steam on Tues evenings! I attend the gym quite often as well, quite a fitness geek! I’m also really getting into my cooking. Recently purchased quite a few cook books and I’m starting to add my own touch to certain recipes, it’s getting very addictive!

    DS.NE

You've been DJ'ing all over the Globe recently, what's the 1 track that's been getting a huge reaction from the dancefloor?

JOB: I’m still playing out the massive JOC remix of my track ‘Found A Way’, such a great feeling to see people singing this back to me at events ever since Armin gave it a huge push. John did such a great job on the remix, top man!

    DS.NE
Tell us 1 track you’re definitely going to play on April 1st?
JOB: Again one of mine (would be rude not to!). My new single ‘Let Go’ (the collab with Sonic Element) will certainly be played!

    DS.NE:

Finally and for the purpose of our wider audience, what can we look forward to hearing from you on the night?
JOB: Expect the best in trance, you’ll get a lot of energy from me and I’d love to see the energy back at me, although that’s a certainty as the gig is in Newcastle! Really looking forward to the event, see you on the dance floor.

Cheers Jon! see you April 1st!

The interview with Flem was a nice read. Desperate not to say Sunderland though in "because I am a original from the north, this alone gets me excited to 'come home'"
