Agree ^^ Great move imo. We'll probably only get 1-2 seasons out of him but hopefully thats all we'll need to nurture our future back 4, something I think every toon fan will agree in saying that we've been missing for years.
Hopefully we can now turn our attention to finding a decent striker now. I just can't see carrol ameobi and co doing the job in the premier league this year. For the life of me I can't comprehend why we let kris Boyd sign for boro. Obviously we aren't going to get anyone of a high calibre in but the all time top scorer in the spl for free would have been a quality signing to partner carrol.
You say that but he had offers from other premier league teams, Strachans obviously got a bit of sway when it comes to the Scottish lot.
Sol Campbell's a decent signing. Was decent for Arsenal last season and will do a job for a year or two. Will be a good tutor for Taylor and Kadar.
I've heard you're in for Jon Stead for something like £200K. What an absolute waste of £200K. I'd be extremely shocked if Blackpool don't become the worst side in Premiership history this year.
£200k for Jon Stead - absolute eyes out. I might give Holloway a call, he'd get better value buying me for 150k and I can start next week.
Not really, his wifes from Northumberland and they want to live in the North East. Add too that he'll have more chance at playing games for Newcastle with Arsenal having Kosinelcy (Sp?) and Vermaalen and Djourou back from injury he'd have been 4th choice. The only volumes it speaks is that apparently Sunderland were in for him so he chose Newcastle over them.
The "not really" again applies here, Bruce was quoted last week as saying now we had Bramble he didnt want Campbell anymore. Reading between the lines, I think he was saying he will only buy 1 shite centre half each year, and Bramble was his fill.
Does seem a strange one if I was honest, I'm glad he's came but can't see why he never wanted to go back down to Arsenal as we've only offered him the exact same contract length?
2 seasons is a huge amount of time this day in age to get something right within a squad (you only have to look at the seismic shift we've seen at NUFC in 1 season), theres already a base of players that are capable but really need tuition to take them to the next level, I'm not saying were ever gunna set the word on fire but we have form there that can certainly be improved with an experience by their side week in week out: Taylor - Still very young, shows signs of having enough in him to be a solid defender, just needs someone to hold his hand on occasions. Coloccini - Had a nightmare in the Prem, after being relegated last season came back & showed signs of confidence, had a decent season in all. Williamson - Jury's still out for me personally but can't completely take away the fact he does look like he'll come good for us. Enrique - Probably Newcastle's best player last season, nuff said. The only other defender worthy of throwing in the hat would be Simpson, he looks very promising and is like shit of a stick. Add Campbell’s experience to all of the above & we should (hopefully) see a dramatic change in each player tactically, that shouldn’t take anymore than a few seasons, it all depends on how the Club choose to conduct there business in the future? If you take our past as an example then it’ll probably take a lifetime to rectify. Seriously... I don't think any Club in the premiership can truthfully boast that.
