Personally I think podcasts, mixes and tracks should all be in music. There's been some amazing podcasts from some board members on here and at first glance, even if millions have listened, they still look like they've been overlooked. This board still has some great local dj's, producers and promoters on here on a regular basis. Tbf, even when you compare it to something like DjMag's forum, it can get busier for general crack and, more so, for feedback. Even if it's a rinsing, at least people are bothering.

This board may only be an institution to a small minority, but it's still been the best around over the years.

    I'll sort that oot.

    Yep, done

Already sorted. From now on no more external promoters bar a few - it's all local promoters and labels

The new layout looks a lot better, less cluttered, more concise

I had a feeling the next two months would be quiet on here anyway, due to the actual clubbing calendar being quite dead over september-november time. Hopefully we will attract a few new members to keep the general discussion section busy over those months. I might even have to nick ideas from other forums to keep it going!

HERES AN IDEA WHICH WILL MAKE THE FORUM VIBRANT AND FULL OF LIFE.

GET RID OF ALL THE SUB SECTIONS AND HAVE JUST ONE FORUM. YOU LOGIN AND STRAIGHT AWAY THERE WILL BE LOADS OF TOPICS TO CHECK OUT WITHOUT HAVING TO GO INTO SPECIALIST SECTIONS.

KEEP GOING OUT AND BUY & SELL AND MOVE EVERYTHING ELSE INTO GENERAL.

TRY IT AND IF YA DON'T LIKE IT REVERT IT BACK. YOU GOT NOTHING TO LOSE ;)

To be fair the KUHNT might have point. General banter and events/going out. Simple.

Oh and lots of anal lube!

Just happended across this thread having not looked at this site for years and not posted anything substantial for even longer.. The 'heyday' of 7-8 years ago is long since gone.

I think Brids 'chairs on the Titanic' analogy is fairly on the money, even though I've long since moved away from Newcastle and the majority of the people who posted were utter plebs, online and off, I met one of my best mates on here and a handful of other pretty decent people.

The fact is that most of them seem to have deserted, I randomly saw an old board member on Brick Lane a few weeks back, one third of the 'Tri Hard Soundsystem' for those who remember, who's still in Newcastle and looking at the state of this board has confirmed everything he said - it's pretty terminal. I can't believe someone is actually funding this out of their own pocket post-Rob..

Social networking isn't the problem - case in point being that football forums on the web are brimming with new posters, the problem is a lack of purpose, this place was promisealways.com, which only means something to a small minority of people who like myself have moved on..

Sad, but I think it's finally time to lock up 'Mission Control' for good.

Sites always have people who stop using them eventually and move on. People like yourself, SeniorChem Si, crasherkid, Joe, etc were among the first people to regularly use this place, and the first few years of this board seem to make up the majority of the posts. A lot of them have grown out of it - out of the first few people to join up and use this place, there's only really G.H, Spence, Pike and Jimmy left on here and a couple of others who post regularly.

I've seen similar patterns on other forums I used to post on - you grow out of stuff and move on. I know loads of people (especially round Consett) who used to go to Promise every week. These people have grown up, got proper jobs, and now have houses, children, etc, and have grown out of it and this site as a result. I saw Ruth last night - she can't remember the last time she logged on or posted, but she doesn't really get the time to now as her job has her all over the North East.

At the time that Rob was looking to get rid of the site MoS approached me about running it instead - I already run web sites and running one more would be no big deal. Our only cost has been a licence for the board software - since then it hasn't exactly been expensive. But at the time it didn't feel like I had lots of time to think things through - it was either take it up or it would go the distance. In January of last year, the board was a lot busier than it is now, and certainly looked worth saving. It still does now.

I don't think the decline of this site is irreversable or permanent. I think it can be turned round if the site is given a purpose. Thats what we've been trying to do over the last year, turning it into more of a "whats on in the town" than "that site everyone used to post on when promise was on".
Whether I'm right or not remains to be seen. But you're right - if it's seen as the latter, people will just stop using it.

It doesn't exactly encourage people to sign up if it looks like the Promise memorial site. The clubbers of Newcastle have short memories - less than five years since Promise stopped running on a regular basis and noone (bar the inhabitants past and present of this board) remembers it.

Brid, MistaK and I have discussed at length what we can do to try and turn this site around, and we're going to have a decent crack at it. I would rather try (and possibly fail) to give this site a new lease of life, than just give up entirely

To be fair I'd rather have it like this than not at all - You can see what's on, advertise nights, an occasional rinsing/cringe - and it's a nice change from facebook. Sad cunt.

Also a hell of a lot more people read the board than people probably think but stay silent (dont you, yeah you)

i used to be a regular poster on this site and loved the banter, the "hayday" for me was when i was bang into clubbing in town, and the board was divided into clubbers and the bedroom clubbers who never went out and there was always an argument, and peoples threads always got hijacked which was funny. i.e the whole jewish joe thing

i dont often come on here anymore, and the only thing that i notice has changed is there isnt half as many posts on the banter bit. but if ure looking for good nights, in newcastle and that this is still the place to find out, and if you ever want someones opinion on a place to eat or summit to do, i would always post on here and get an honest answer

Just keep it as a "whats on" with a GD forum.

Loads of people find the site when they are looking to plan a trip to toon as we have seen in the past.

If you cant be arsed with that Conners fuck it off. This site was a copy of Crashers hughly successfull site in the 90's... thats been dead for years

People will always find the site and post it just wont be as busy as the old days but such is life. Fuck Facebook

look why dont you fuck off and stay in london

the people who are left are the ones who are still committed to putting on events for a smaller community of clubbers in newcastle. most clubbers have moved from forums / dsi to facebook but www.nucastle.co.uk still is an integral part of the local scene in newcastle

the one thing of note YOU did in newcastle was smash snacks pasty

now fuck off for another 4 years please

and yes i am a cunt

    deal with it

    :screw:
