Door staff in Newcastle to wear headcams

Door staff at a Newcastle nightclub are to wear headcams in an effort to cut disorder and underage drinking.

Security staff at the city's Bambu club will be kitted out with the cameras, which have won the backing of senior police officers.

Tyneside-based Phoenix Security, which employs the door staff, said it hoped to extend the scheme to other venues.

Ultimate Leisure, which operates Bambu, said it was confident customers would welcome the move.

    'Fully supportive'

Images from the cameras will be stored at Phoenix Security's Killingworth headquarters.

Steve Howe, director of Phoenix Security, said: "We want to protect those intent only on enjoying themselves in a responsible manner.

"If the introduction of the headcams for our staff at Bambu proves the success we predict, then there is no reason why we cannot start to roll this out across all our entertainment and leisure partners in the city."

Ch Insp Geoff Logan, from Northumbria Police, added: "The headcams are something the police have started to use in a number of situations to great effect.

"We're fully supportive of any technological introduction which will assist in the reduction of crime and reassure the general public of its own safety."

Might stop tosser doorman being heavy handed with normal people though?

I was chatting to a doorman mate outside of the Spider 2 Sundays ago (and no i hadnt been in)... some youngish lad came out, the door happened to slam a bit behind him, and they flung him on the floor and said "dont smash doors when its not your property"
The lad was shook up by it and was sitting on a step further down upset.

Tossers man, nowt but bullies when it comes down to it the majority of them.
