The 5 strikers you'd take to the world cup

With the world cup just around the corner which 5 english strikers would you take to south africa? please put any local rivalries to one side and just make you choice based on goal scoring ability/which players are in form/who you think could bring us back the biggest prize in football

i personally think 3 places are gonna be a cert in rooney, defoe and crouch but my 5 would be...

    rooney
    defoe
    crouch
    bent
    cole

ive had this same conversation with a couple people the other day and they still thought heskey and owen should be involved even though they haven't done anything in the league but based on how they played for england in the past and that they always seemed to play better for there country on the world stage. i know all the newcastle
fans on here will prob just slate me for having darren bent in my 5 but hes currently one of the most prolific goal scorers in the premiership with 20 goals so far and certainly as far as english strikers go is only second to rooney in the english strikers top scorers table and could still possibly end up top scorer in the premiership. my heart says he should go to south africa but my head tells me that he could end up being top scorer and still not go to south africa because he doesnt play for a top 4 team. but for me its a harder thing to score 20 goals for a team without the money and class of the top 4 so i think he deserves it more.

anyways im intrested to hear which 5 you would all genuinly take wether your a darren bent fan or not

i think Capello will go with these 5 as well.

Darren Bent should be one of the first 3 strikers to take for me, never mind top 5 - however i really dont think he will go as Capello doesnt seem to rate him or want to give him a decent chance.

Watching him this season he has massively impressed me with his all round play, work rate as well as being clinical in front of goal.

    I would take -

    Rooney
    Bent
    Defoe
Heskey (purely as he seems to bring out the best in Rooney)
    Crouch

Are you the same Dan Hay who posted on this board saying you hoped Sunderland wasted there transfer kitty on Darren Bent just before we signed him? :screw:

to be fair heskey would be a much better player if he wasn't so busy endorsing Premier Inn at every opportunity.

2 strikers wont even get pitch time, id take owen for sure. if i wanted a goal in the last 15 mins of a world cup quarter final whos better? Bent? or even Defoe whos blew nearly every chance hes ever had for england...

Owen SCORES IMPORTANT GOALS IN BIG TORNYS. Its on wiki

I'd seriously consider taking Agbonlahor as his pace is a massive asset, he stretches defences and makes good runs into the channels for Vila which opens up space for their other players and i reckon Rooney would thrive on that kind of space.

If we are struggling to break down a defence and there's 20 mins to go it could be worth a punt. But i dont think we need to take 5, i think we need to stick Milner on the left and play Gerrard in behind Rooney like he does behind Torres and see how that works/

if he takes 5 is still undecided... (unless an interview ive missed has taken
place saying hes taken 5). With the amount of quality midfielders we have might be better taking an extra 1 of them...only Fabio knows

    Anyhow 5 i would take would be;

    Rooney
    Crouch
    Defoe
    Heskey
    Agbonlahor

Rooney has proven he can play as lone striker with quality wingers around him, Crouch is always a handfull, Heskey if Capello starts him with Rooney generally works well and both JD & GB should make an impact with pace and creativity
