    work problems!

basically i work for the worst company in the world, now they have just taken it to a new level like
im on shit wages even though im qualified to do other jobs theres hardly anything out there at the moment

work for the listening company call centre, originally started doing tv technical.
was then given like a weeks notice and upskilled to also doing broadband technical. no pay increase despite us doing 2 jobs and some people doing just the one job for same money.
was then given 2 days notice that my rota was changing and im now being upskilled to a shitload of other things also for no pay increase
so as usual had no notice and had to cancel plans for this week as im now doing training for 3 more departments and once we are doing that we are then getting upskilled to yet another department.
so thats 6 times the amount of work i would normally be doing for no pay increase? have been there for over a year so now on a proper contract which also states that i will be given my rota's for the week ahead AT LEAST a week in advance. this happens say about once every 2 month? the rest of the time we get our rotas like 2 days before so the company is in breach of its own contract right there.

The company also dosent recognise a union although we are trying to get something organised as they are blatently taking the piss.
also unhappy at loads of other stuff like them randomly docking wages of 15 mins - half an hour all the time.

Really cant quit as i'd much prefer having a job, albeit a shit one than go on the dole. For every issue ive mentioned above we have all spoken to our line managers and the issue has been raised with higher management by numerous people.

Just wanting to know if what they are doing is legal and wether anything could be done as im getting fed up now like..

muchos thank yous for any advice!

Try getting poeple togeather to join an exsisting union so they can fight on your behalf.

Corperate companys are twats and the bottom line is they will screw you over as much as possible untill you get a union.

If you try to fight back without one they will sack you or move the plant/call centre somewhere else plenty poeple need work so they are taking advantadge of this.

They are breaching your contact but without some to stand up with you and the workers behind them you can do jack as your sacked and an other drone brought forewardto do your job,

    Welcome to global Capatalism.

Join a union and fuck them back.

haha life sweet in the navy jimi?
yeah a few people are getting together to get a union sorted out but as it stands the company says they dont recognise any unions until over half the staff have joined it.

half the people there are just grateful they have a job though, thats the problem.

even the decent manager was speaking to her manager and saying that there was a shitload of unhappy staff and they were basically like we dont care, if they leave there is thousands of people that can be brought in as there is no jobs about!

Thats true where do you work.

I took the bite in my 20's to get into a career ran by humans rather than poeple who see there co-workers out of jobs if they could move one notch futher up the management chain.

In the civil service mt friend was denied leave when his mother had six month's left to live with a brain tumour as because his sister moved in as well to look after her, he was not the sole carer so did not qualifie for the 3 months you are allowed off to deal with your dieing mothers wish's and get her estate in order his dad had died 5 years earlier.

His mums dream was for them to go on holiday to india for month while she could still enjoy wiith ian but our cold hearted Senior manager looked for a loop hole to make stay work when there was fuck all to do anyway.

She was surposed to be a christian as well,

I suppose it isn't till you hear the horror stories from other people about how shit their employers treat them that you realise how lucky you are to have a decent one.

The best advice I can give is to organise yourselves. A union is a good start, but the other thing you can do is set up a staff forum to air your grievances. Get people involved, get them round a table together, and then you can all bring up the issues that affect you and list them. You can then present them to your employer and it carries a bit more weight than one person whining about some obscure term in his contract, if you're all bringing it up as a collective group.

Some call centres may treat their staff as disposable, but what you have to remember is that it takes time for them to bring in new staff (think about time to advertise jobs, sift through applications, interview them, train them, then get them up to the level where they're as good as the staff they replace). Most employers cant and wont sack staff en-masse because of the disruption this causes, despite how they may go on. Staff aren't that disposable. Remind them of that.

    Taken from:http://www.listening.co.uk/exception-rules/engaging-our-people/

For us, engagement is about how our people behave at work.

It is about the extent to which they know what they have to do, and willingly give their discretionary effort to do it.

It is the difference between people simply coming to work and doing an adequate job, and people coming to work and really giving their best, displaying creative talent and using their initiative.

In many organisations, talent management tends to fall under HR’s umbrella. It’s a hard job that often doesn’t get its fair share of respect and resources.

Not so at The Listening Company.

Our engagement teams are part of the operational DNA of the company. Whether it relates to a person’s career, their personal development or more social matters, we are committed to leadership, communications, well being and recognition.

We are above all a people business.
Each of us without exception is an exception.
That’s why the exception rules our business.

    Exception rules.

ahhh i would have been there then, would have been on tv tech at the time though

seriously since last summer there is about 4 or 5 people that are still there like......the place has such a high turnover.

the thing is the majority of the people are not arsed and will happily put up with it as they have worked in call centres since they left school and are prepared to put up with the shit pay and shit treatment.

    @granty
at the minute im doing Pat, cust services, tv tech, broadband tech, sky talk tech, svbn, wlr, pds and soon to be doing billing.......gonna have to get my arse in gear and get out of there. doing sky talk tech, svbn, wlr and pds on 4 days training and 5 extra systems without even seeing them :O

sounds wank, im in a call centre at the min and similar thing, doesnt sound as bad like but they upskill everyone on different departments then knock payrises back left right and centre so everyones on the same wage they were when they started on one deparment. turn overs really high aswell and you get treated like shit. not a good look.

cheers for all the bits and bobs like,

so if i went to say the citizens advice? what would i tell them without sounding like i just didnt want to do alot more work?

half the problem is not the amount of work its the increased responsibility (in a call centre lol) we are having to go through stupid amounts of things with the customers now, using up to 10 different programes on one call and then at the end if we make a mistake and escalate the call we get the company massively fined by bt and then we get hit with some sort of disciplinary/action taken which i dont think should happen when they haven't even given you a pay rise for it? we've also been fed the story that everyone in sky is getting upskilled and call centres being made into one stop shops...I spoke to sky about a billing issue today and got talking to the agent that works for another company, they weren't getting upskilled at all

    sorry about whinging again :)
