Enjoyed my first brief trip to Detox, Rossy tore his room to bits (no change there) and I even got to hear 'Legend B - Lost in Love' during a brief stay in the main room, that tune has a special place in my heart but the rest seemed too hard for my flouncing house music tendencies these days.

After already being up 24 hours it was soon time to go back to the after party but I must say the crowd wasn't half was bad as i thought it would be, being used to £70 hair cuts, darlings on charlie and students on plant fertilisers...

Good to see Forks keeping it real too

    Nice one.

Ive never seen/heard a ratpack set before, but my presumption was that they definately WOULDNT be playing someting from a PVD back catalogue, let alone a chart remix of one.

They didnt do For an Angel, I didnt hear the melody anyway, they just sang the words of that 'Lover' shite which was a totally different tune that was mashed up with for an angel, same lyrics have also been used in a drum & bass track. I thought they were ok, first time I've seen them and they did exactly what I thought they would - Cheesey crowd pleasers

RATPACKS management were specifically instructed that ratpacks set was to be old skool , we even went so far as to memtion that we had heard recent rumours that paul van dyks for an angel and born slippy by underwolrd were dropped into sets, they assured us that RATPACK were happy to play old skool and would not play these type of tracks.

whilst we would never tell an act what to play, considering that they were being paid a fuck load of money and that they agreed initially to this old skool set its a bit surprising they dropped them 2 tunes in a set that was only an hour long

I've got some mint footage of them dropping some bombs during their set ansd I think they were canny good its just a shame that they saw fit to play the likes of pvd , underworld and n-trance in what was supposed to be classic old skool set and that initself dissapointed a lot of the misty eyed ravers.

I thought vinyl groover, mark eg and karim were unbeliveable tho

see you on the 14th august

From 1989-1993 they played what is now called oldschool hardcore breakbeats, hoovers, piano breaks, jungle, a bit of acid, techno.

Some was cheesy as was the way at the time some was hard and ground breaking there sets from Fanatazia and rez at the time were great.

Just seems when you put loads artists booked to play oldschool on a line-up some bottle it and resort awfull booklegs or they take on recent classics.

There are enough tracks out there and enough rare tracks beening re-issued that i don't see the point unless its a new track that is made to sound like its from that era.

To be fair, if you've paid to book a DJ or act, they should play what you ask of them, especially if they've agreed to play a classics set.

It's not like you've been unreasonable and asked them to play a Consett anthems set...

It wasn't PVD, it was Binary Finary that Ratpack played, which isn't exactly old skool either!

there are a myriad "big time charlie" stories I could post on this forum regarding a certain act on the evening in question.

However, it would be neither right nor professional to circulate them on message board forums , but suffice to say one of these stories involves 2 members of a booked act and a girl who definately did not put out for either of them in a hotel room after the show.

lets just say I am extremely surprised that some "hardcore back in the day"
dj's ravers got drank into oblivion by a female under the age of 25.

well i wandered round with a large smile, mostly not knowing who was playing, staying when the music was good, moving on when it wasn't and had an exceedingly pleasant time as a result. ~sorry to have missed Rossy, nice to have seen loadsa faces, some new, some old. Nice one Melt :king:
