Depends where you are.. at home I listen to whatever I like the sound of, if I'm out, I'll generally choose where to go based on the DJ's who are on. I've found that knowing there's a DJ playing at a club who you respect makes it easier for you to trust what is gonna be played. whereas going somewhere with a DJ you either havent heard of or don't like always makes you wonder what the night will be like and it can take a while for you to get into the full swing of things. :)

    Its all relative really like.

Yesterday on the metro i was listening to Halliwell's 2nd Mixmag bosh CD because i hadnt heard his scratching/turntablism for years - then its about the dj.

Today i listened to Ruffers end of decade mix because i wanted to hear some tunes i otherwise wouldnt have listened to singularly - then its about the music.

i used to like A&B solely because of the music, however they've become idols of the DJ appreciators. like tiesto and armin have become, but not on as big of scale, nearly...

Its a bit of a shame really ... it would be nice to go to a club sometimes and not know who the fuck was on, but be well into the music.

Apart from glade festival, i tend to pick nights based on jocks, unless im going to a night that i dont usually go to, where THEN i go knowing the promoters are doing a cracking job of putting on the right sound.

    Nail on head

You could probably have a decent debate on this, though as Adam says for me it depends on the DJ/music/location...

One set that springs to mind in terms of being about the DJ was seeing Villalobos at timewarp a couple of years ago, fucking totally awesome and playing some records that if i heard them on their own wouldnt think they were anything special, though hearing him play them and the atmosphere he created was probably one of the highlights of anything i have ever seen in a club.

Then you have when you are buying tracks yourself, the joy of hearing a track that you havent heard before that you think is mint, finding out what it is, tracking it down, buying it and then playing it out yourself, definitely about the music

Music and Dj's go hand in hand prefer interesting, innotive music played by a all right dj to great technical skills on bland easy to mix generic tracks.

Some who can do both is ideal really, as i get older i enjoy live shows more unless just some one on a lap top.

I choose togo to nights/festivals/partys on the style of music being can tolerate a few mess ups by a dj as long as they are not distorting the sound so my ears are ringing.

    Honestly!?

One of the main examples of liking the DJ for his sound, and for himself is eddie likes to jump about a bit and get involved, while playing stuff that wouldent normally get played within the boundries of a trance night, same goes for bryan kearney. it's nice to see, and nice to hear

I'd have preferred the quote followed by 5 minutes of silence personally.

That tune would have me heading straight for the back room.

Still, there was a time when stuff like that felt 'new' back in the mid nineties - to me it just sounds shit today.

For most of us we go out to see a certain DJs play. However once inside the venue it is all about the music.

Of course sometimes we go to nights just because we are on the guest list & it would be rude not to go.

I am absolutely shit at producing, but i'm pretty confident I could make a track on par with that, it's just a kick drum and a hoover.
