    CDJ Help

I'm looking at getting a set of CDJ's. Can anyone give me some advice on what to buy. I like the 1000's but the price difference between them and the 800's is quite substantial. Is it worth paying the difference or are the 800's a good reliable deck for there price.

    Any feedback would be appreciated

    Cheers!!

The 800's are a cut down version of the 1000's. If you learn how to use one of them, then you'll be able to use the other one easy peasy.

Its only worth getting 1000's if you want to have the same setup as most clubs have in. Although now the CDJ2000 is out, this will gradually change .... you might wanna wait a little while and buy a cdj 1000 or 800 when everyone is getting rid of theirs on ebay to fund a cdj2000

Not sure how much use it is to you but im selling m spare 1 for £450 (1yr old & Boxed). You can probably pick another up 2nd hand for about the same price from Ebay.

Edit: the 800's are great, I also started out with them when I 1st switched to CD's. But if you play out regularly you'll find yourself wanting to upgrade after about 6 months to something where you can practice your touch/technique at home & take it straight into a club. But price wise vs funcionality there great.

I'd probably be getting them on finance as I aint got that sort of cash spare, but i'm a bit resigned to buying them pre-owned in case anything broke as i'd have to fork out the cash for repairs rather than using the warranty if there new.

    Cheers Anyway

or. get the 900 - which seems to me like a 1000 with more gadgets anyway :)

Yeh fair play, if your looking at a finance option you may aswel go all out & head straight for the 1000's, you'll have them for eternity (or until you move to Laptops lol). Little extra initially but you'll only have the hassle of trying to shift your 800's after 6/12 months.

i'd definately get a 900. It will allow you to move to traktor/ableton very easily, plus its brand new and everyone will be jealous that you have one.

Personally, it always seemed nuts to me that people would get 2 exact same cdj's - which is why i got a CDJ1000 and a Denon DNS-5000 (4 years ago) so i could learn 2 different things. Theres ultra cheap CDJ's out there from Denon (DNS-1000) which could make things a hell of a lot cheaper if you got one of those in addition to a pricey deck.

Still, alot of people want their setup to be symmetrical, and ive not seen many people who DONT have a pair of 800's or 1000's.

Thats also another option as well as the price difference for a pair is only £100 quid more than the 1000's. Only problem is they havnt been out for long so the long-term reliabilty is questionable, although pioneer are usually pretty good with their products.

mate pioneer are top ship for build quality - i'd rather get the 900's. much better, more tech and they're midi controllers as well :)

It's horses for courses at the end of the day.

If you want to CD mix on something that is rock-solid and won't let you down, the 800 is all you need. Like Brid has pointed out - there's little difference between that and the 1000, the layout on one matches the other so closely that if you've used one you can use the other no problem.

When I DJed at the attic on NYD, they swapped one of our CDJ1000s last minute for an 800 without telling us. I'd never used one before, but I've used 1000s plenty of times and picked it up in about five seconds.

If you're looking at going down the MIDI controller route, then the CDJ400, or CDJ900 is your best bet. Both are packed with features (the 400 in particular is really impressive) and you get the build quality of the larger units thrown in which is always a plus. Again, their button layout is similar to the other models and they're dead easy to get to grips with.

As far as alternatives to the Pioneer gear goes, apart from the Denon stuff, there isn't much that comes close. Numark's stuff tends to be well thought out but poorly put together, Gemini stuff is awful, the Technics stuff isn't a patch on its vinyl line. If you fancy a cheaper alternative look at the Denon DNS1000, DNS3000, and DNS5000/5500. All are available on ebay in good nick for less than a third of the cost of their Pioneer equivalent brand new and they're just as good in terms of features and reliability (if a bit different).

Cheers for that. I deffinatly don't want something that i'll want to change in 6-12 months like Gary said so i'll probs go with the 900's or 1000's.

That thing is the bargain of the century. Full midi controller, sound card, regular decks that play off USB/HDD/CD, 2 decks in one ..... and available for 400-500 quid from the states now its discontinued.

Shame no fucker apart from me and Conway likes Denon stuff ;)

I'd say the whole laptop DJ'ing thing has meant it doesnt matter at all what kit your using, since everyone brings their own kit to gigs.

A pair of pioneers seems like a MASSIVE amount of money to shell out to me.
