Actually I'm going to rant for a bit. That's one thing that really pisses me off with boxing, promoters dilly dally for months avoiding putting big fighters together for what seems like forever, whereas in MMA there's a big fight every event, they make the fighters prove they're the best. Yes you get big boxing matches, and we've had a few recently. But khans an example to me of someone who's been weeded through carefully, they took one risk and it failed. Since then they've been very careful, he had a fight against an irish school teacher or summic, then a has been with a big name which would regenerate Khans rep, then pit him against an average champion to get a belt which he'll probably defend for a while against average opponents.
That why I prefer mma, there probably a dozen massive fights in boxing a year and in ufc there sometimes 3 or 4 in one event with atleast one event a month, thats not including strikeforce, dream and all the other promotions. If khan comes through this fight they should stop arsing about and put him in with marquez or diaz
Of course boxers are looked after differently to UFC/MMA fighters due to the fact a couple of losses early on in your career in boxing & it is practically game over. There is a stigma to losing in boxing look at Pete's post "Glass Jaw Khan" where it really doesn't matter if you lose in MMA/UFC. The slog to be world champion is longer in boxing than UFC as Brock went: UFC debut (loss), fight (win) & next fight he became champion. There is no way possible someone entering pro boxing would be ready for a title fight in 3 fights as they would get battered.
It never normally happens in MMA. The only reasons why it was done was becuase it was Brock and the heavy weight division in the ufc is very poor. Bring back PRIDE..
Yeah, least ammount of hits received because of his defensive karate background. I love Shogun though, so i hope he does him lol
That's a shit example lol the heavyweight division is easily the shittest in UFC. There's plenty of competition in all other weight classes, and a lot of the best fighters from Pride moved to UFC, some did well, some failed big time. Difference is in Pride they had soccer kicks, head stomps, knees to the head on the ground, so no ju-jitsu ground game played a much smaller part because there was a far easier defense. In the UFC some have struggled because that side of their game wasn't as drilled. I agree though, I'd do anything to see Pride back.
Thats basically why UFC bought Pride to get Nog, rampage, W Silva etc etc. I was gutted to see cro cop do so bad in the ufc. Shogun has been poor in the ufc. He is going to have to turn it on against loyto
Machida is unreal, everyone goes on about him being boring to watch but some of the stuff he does is amazing
Has anyone got tickets for "Bensham V Fenham"? The undercard for this is stacking up quite well with knowns. Breidis Prescott, Alex Arthur, Nigel Wright, Enzo Maccarinelli, James DeGale, Frankie Gavin & Billy Joe Saunders all fighting What is Tony Jefferies doing these days is he still fighting eastern European knackers at community centres ?
On Jefferies - yeah basically... watched his last fight on sky fight night a few weeks back, was probs his toughest fight to date and think he won on points though against someone who was just glad to hang on for the final bell. Be interested to see how the likes of Jefferies, Degale etc do once they start going up against classier opponents.
They'll get leathered allover, none of the olympians are going to be anything special, just a quick money spinner for there promotors
Due to feeling the pinch recently I've been watching this more & more, been some cracking fights on it. May not be the best boxers technically but the fights are entertaining! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omHPMZAga0k"]YouTube- Boxing Double Knockdown - Paul Samuels vs Cello Renda[/ame]
Kahn has boxed well in his fights with Roach, i hate the cunt but credit where credit due. to have have 3 knokdowns against an undefeted fighter inside 1 round is excellent. still though, he has a world crown and has not not fought a "world class" opponent. if he starts beating the Marquez's, Daiz's and Pac-man's... then we can get excited.
Watched free via my mate Justin Brediss looks like the new buster Douglas i.e whole career remembered for 1 punch.
Khan looked reinvented. I was gobsmacked by his new tech and form. His back looked huge. I didnt rate him (glass chin) but after this min and half i think roach will turn him into a world beater
