    Travelling to clubs ..

It feels like people dont do it much these days.

I wonder if its something thats just related to a bunch of people who go through the motions and then eventually get bored, but even on a board like this that has alot of people that are various ages ............. are people 'bothering' less and less to go out?

Seems like 4/5 years ago people were tripping over themselves to go all over the UK and europe to do trips to see DJ's, but even though people are still as up for it as ever to be part of the club scene, that its really just limited to where they live.

Are people just skint, or bored or what? Or are these things just limited to 'waves' of people who come and go (and grow old) in their own little groups.

im still always up for travelling for a night out like. DS is always a no-brainer.

It'd have to be worth my while tho, i wouldnt travel to Manc or Glasgow for a lineup thats probably going to be at Digital within the year.

We still do it, Brid! But we've had this conversation before, it only seems to be like our group of friends that seems to travels.

I think it comes down to many of the things you have mentioned already though...
    1) Change in the club scene. Not long ago, the lineups were nothing but outstanding and the scene was a lot bigger than it is now. It was cool to follow the top 3, we all did it! NEC had lineups with Tiesto, PVD and Armin on one after the other!!

    2) Growing out of it and changes of circumstances. Mainly comes with age though, doesn't it? 4/5 years ago we didn't have mortgages or girl/boyfriends.

    3) I wouldn't really put it down the the credit crunch or anything but people (because of the above point) just seem to be more careful with thier spending.

I love nothing more than travelling to see a DJ/ going to a club night. :)

It totally does... my b/f's has expired, hence the reason we are getting the National Express to DS next month!!

    Totally worth it though!

i guess 'big names' in the trance/techno/house world arent as easy to see as they used to be.

I would still say it can cost next to nothing if you want to put the effort in. i used to get return trains to newcastle from london for 10-20 quid and if your strategic on your booze/fags and whatever you can make it cost no more than the average local night out.

I dont think the people on here are necessarily 'old' which is why its wierd to think that theres a noticeable drop in the number of people who go anywhere and everywhere to enjoy themselves.

Thats the thing though, when people are in a new town, they don't want a normal night out. They want to make it special and as big as possible!

There are good deals on hotels/travel if you get on to it straight away and book at the right time though....some people just never seem up for doing that/cant get the group in gear to book up.

Maybe people are just less vocal about it these days perhaps.

trance was always something people had to travel for, people like tiesto, van dyk, etc. were never going to play up here, so people had to go to gatecrasher, godskitchen, passion, etc. to an extent it was the same with techno when the orbit was still open in leeds and after reverb closed up here, people used to travel to see good techno djs.

in terms of house though, particularly underground house, the focus is on lesser known djs who are thus more affordable. for the first time in years, newcastle actually has a very healthy house scene. it is a shame that shindig isn't weekly anymore but now we have shindig, habit, suono and jaunt booking great djs on a regular basis, with people like crispy, klickklack, last waltz, etc. booking decent djs too, so there really isn't that much need to travel. there are nicer clubs elsewhere possibly (mint, fabric, subclub, etc.), but the djs we get here compared to leeds, london, manchester, etc. are on a similar par now.

i used to travel to manchester/liverpool loads for nights out but that's because my ex mrs was from there. now i'm not really sure i could be arsed with all the hassle of getting over there, paying for a hotel, paying for food, etc. unless it was something very special. that said, there's been a few things i've fancied going to recently that i just haven't had the pennies for. most notably the cutloose parties in manchestoh.

We still do it as well when there's anything worth travelling to, clubs such as the arches, warehouse project, fabric, matter etc all get semi regular visits. I am also throwing back the years and doing DS next month with the turk playing down there.

I would say once or twice a year we do something abroad as well, I did Timewarp and Cocoon in Frankfurt last year and a few mates have done Berlin a couple of times since then too. Booked up for Cocoon in Frankfurt for october as well

I love going to DS. Just a total change from getting the 21 bus from Birtley to Newcastle for a night out!! The travelling down is part of the night & the hard work travelling back is all part of the fun

Done Trance Energy 2 years running now & will probs go next year, expensive but a totally different experience

Would like to do it more but money is always the problem :(

Was the trance scene more about 'pop star' dj's like PVD who used to play UK clubs more or less every week until the scene got so popular worldwide that they fucked off elsewhere and everyone was left wondering what to do?

I love trance, but these days i reckon its harder work for the average clubber who has to basically enter into a 'scene' to find out what is good and what isnt (in their own minds) .............. which is great in one respect, but as a country who pretty much pioneered the rave scene are we just seeing what happens when things mature.

Places like the USA are massive these days probably cause the scene is 10-15 years behind ours .... will it go the same for them i wonder.

I found that the first 3 years of my clubbing career I hardy travelled anywhere, I was a student and couldn't afford to go anywhere other than Goodgreef every month. Having said that we still managed the occasional coach trip to the Magna's etc. Since GG finished and a majority of my group have stopped going as much Ive found a new lease of life. I now regularly attend DS and this year have been down to Derby (Amplified) Manc (Various) and have aspirations to go to Gods, Passion and hopefully Bournmouth Opera House. I also went to Trance Energy this year and would like to do other foreign events (Dance Valley, Nature One, Sunrise etc). I think I realise that my clubbing time will finish eventually and want to see and do as many things as I can before it happens.
