I was pretty much ordered to sling my hook when i was 21, and i was out very soon after that.

Looking back, i must have spent 8-9 years spending 8-12 grand a year in rent, got into debt, got OUT of debt ..... yes its expensive but who gives a damn.

Best thing you can do. It whips you into shape VERY quickly because things you kind of just let your parents worry about while you drift around thinking about little more than your next pair of jeans or silly mobile phone suddenly become VERY important.

Plus, if your a bloke - then i dont think theres anything worse than taking a young lady home (or a young man) and having to tip toe upstairs and then 'make love' in silent on a duvet placed on the floor, and to make sure the object of your desire has to leave like a cat burglar at 6am before anyone gets up. Your racing car duvet and poster of a porsche from the 1970's doesnt exactly add to the 'pimp' image either. (That never happened to me cause i moved out early!)

That all applies to people who could very well move out if they pull their finger out, or stop spending all their money on gash. There are plenty of people who literally cant afford to move out and its totally understandable. Also, one of the problems with western 'society' is that we have this obsession with self reliance which means everyone feels the need to put themselves in the poor house as they 'go it alone' .... which is a bit silly really.

I'd love to spend a year back at my parents house like - In fact it would be bliss. No hassle WHAT SO EVER.

 I get home after a 300 mile drive and within a few hours the first racist comment gets made, or 'who wants to be a millionaire' gets turned on (A repeat from 8 years ago) and i remind myself WHY im glad i left in the first place ;)

I think once you've left it's very hard to go back. I moved out when I was 21 (now 27) and no way could I live with my mum again, much as I love her. Yeah I could have saved money if I'd stayed at home but moving out has done me the world of good in terms of independence and now I'm buying a place by myself :)

25 is a decent bench mark to aim for (this gives me 3 more years to learn how to cook, clean and survive  unless i choose Leeds to do my PGCE, in which case i could be out the comforts of home in 2 months)

I moved out at 17 and at 24 now, have a mortage. It did me the world of good and would reccomend it to any one! Yes its been tough at times but its all part of being part of the 'real world'.

I could never move back home now. I'm only there for a few days and the moaning and nagging starts.

I can't see how people would want to stay at home and get everything handed to them on a silver plate?

I moved out a year ago today. No way could I go back to me mams now. Aslong as you're good with money theres no reason you should be skint unless you're earning minimum wage. I dont earn mega amounts and I save, go on holiday, live in a nice place, buy the things I want and still go out drinking every week.

I left at 20 and never looked back. Can't stand anyone telling me what to do and followed my own nose ever since. times have been tough sometimes but i never regretted it.
now I'm a parent the thought of my boy hanging round my neck, much as I love him, till he's 25 is just depressing
