    Getting your ears syringed

How do you go about doing this on the NHS at a GP clinic?

Just call up and make an appointment and say you want that done?

I think years of abuse have gunked up my ear canals and my lass is about to dump me if i say 'pardon' to her one more time.

I'd love mine done again, not sure how you have it done though. The only time i've had it done was because i had an ear infection when i was about 17.

It's class like, I'm proper deaf at times picking up voices. Coming out the doctors having had it down though its unreal at what you can hear. Traffic is a bitch though as its loud as fuck.

just make an appointment at your GP, they will sort it for you.

When I worked in the club I used to have to get mine done every 3 month, its just normally the practice nurse who does it. Might be different down there though

When you ring up for an appointment do you say you want that done? Or when you turn up for an appointment you tell them you want it done?

i have to get mine done every 6 months because my ears are fucking tiny, and apparently i have a very small ear canal. they make me put this oil into either lug twice a day for the 5 days running up to the syringing. this miht be the case for you so if you need them done before a set date (holiday for example) give yourself plenty of time to book the appointments

They generally avoid doing it these days unless its the only option, as it can damage the ears. They'll prescribe you some ear drops that you put in before bed.

This is what my GP said anyway. Yours may be different.

most gp surgeries will make you an appointment with a nurse to get it done if you just ring up, but they'll insist that you put oil in it for 5-7 days.

a little medical trick for you - tell tham that you've done this and just sit with olive oil (the stuff that you'd use for cooking, don't bother using earex/otex, it doesn't work) in the offending ear, plugged with cotton wool, for about 24 hours prior, and it should come straight out. nurses hate being proven wrong with this but it works a charm.

Result, i didnt quite fancy the idea of having oil in my ear for 4-5 days.

Yeah, i used otex on holiday when it first got really bad (2 years ago!) and it made it WORSE. It just gelled up in my ear and properly deafened me - I had to spend a week just getting the otex out!

I had it done about 10 years ago.

Went to the old WHQ one night, stood next to the speaker (which was rattling quite a bit) most of the night and remember being in agony later on sitting in Magic Flame. Didnt sleep one minute all night due to the pain in my ears. Made an emergency apointment with a GP that morning, and he syringed them there and then.

Tbh i hadnt noticed owt wrong with my hearing before that, but it did all seem super clear afterwards.

Hated having it done like. Felt horrible, though im sure it was only 15 seconds or so in each ear.

Takes about 10 minutes at the most with cleaning etc no pain involved, the doctor just shoots some water in and job done. The next time your out in town after having it done is quality, the music sounds much better.
