    Sharm El Sheikh

Anyone got any good reports about the place? Just booked up to go & was just after a bit info really. Are the Pyramids worth the day trip & are the surrounding areas around the resorts as bad as i've heard with regards to poverty & beggars & that?

    Cheers in advance :)

Had to work in Egypt early last year, horrible dirty place, bunch of thieving twats. Only good thing about Sharm is that it is built up for a westerners holiday place, so it's clean and good for diving, watch out for the sharks.

i'm going mainly off hearsay here, but sharm el sheikh = loads of westerners and good diving, particularly if you have padi. if you haven't, it's probably a good (and more expensive) place to do it.

I went in November 2007 with my lass. Stayed in the Jaz Mirabel Beach resort in Sharm. We really enjoyed it like mate. Would easily gan back. A lot of the hotels are just outside of the main resort, but offer free or really cheap shuttle buses right into the centre.

Despite people telling us to watch what we ate, we were never ill once off the food and it was solids the whole holiday when I went for a shit, which is rare even in Europe never mind Egypt.

Do as many excursions as you can. Diving is the obvious. But I'd definitely recommend "Stars & Dinner" (it may be called something slightly different). They pick you up just before sunset and drive way out into the desert to where there's no visible light from towns or cities. It's home of the "Bedouin" people. They have telescopes and show you the star constellations, you have food - which was actually spot on - then you smoke some sheesha (sp?) and chill watching the stars with your bird.

If you're eating out, try the "Wise Buddha" opposite the Hard Rock Cafe in Sharm. They move all the chairs from the downstairs floor late on and stick a dj on some nights too.

Also check who's on at Pacha and pick a good night and go. It's actually canny good and is probs the only place you'll get any half decent clubbing action over there. Get your tickets from your hotel rep or haggle with the flyer lads if you can be arsed. We did and they gave in like.

Went last year for a fortnight (40oC in October!). Would definately recommend it, couldnt ask for more in terms of a nice relaxing holiday with plenty sun. Nightlifes not up to much though theres only naama bay which really has any.
Did the day trip to cairo, flights there egyptian museum, pyramids, sphinx and papyrus museum and flights back 5am till 9pm for 110quid each was well worth it (although you couldnt pick and choose you had to go to them all and museums on holiday really isnt my cup of tea like). And like granty says the bedouin village trips worth it aswell.
