Without wanting to sound like I am being funny or owt

that comment is so wide of the mark that its unreal.

broadly speaking the red rooms is poor for a number of reasons including equipment set up, management the list goes on.

it manages to look good when a half decent night such as backlash or jaunt is on there because it takes minimal numbers to make it look fairy busy / rammed

the people who run red rooms (by this i aint meaning leotard) are complete idiots and the bouncers down there even bigger ones

I am so glad the likes of backlash have got out of there

there are so many more unique spaces around town if you just open your eyes, you will see them everywhere

mind you its a shame the owners are chasing the coin but hey thats newcastle all over

We've never had any kind of trouble with the red rooms to be fair, except lumbering the quality sound system up the stairs.

The bouncers I've found to be quite pleasant aswell, especially when put next to the likes of the cosmic ones.

All our DJ's that have played have loved the venue as have everyone who's come down and had a quality night.

It's a shame to see it go but you're right Melt, there are loads of quality venues in and around Newcastle. Our eyes are open.

Hope you work something out lads.

I totally disagree that there is loads of quality venues in Newcastle that could be used for a regular club night.

Rather than go back and edit my post, i'll correct my statement hear.

"Possibly Newcastles last remaining unique venue that is currently operating"

As for saying my comments are wide of the mark... i didn't actually say it was a unique due to any quality of equipment or service, just that i've yet to find anything like it with such a satisfactory layout (precisely for the reason that melt highlited... it's very easy to make it appear busy).

I also think that your info regarding the doorman might be slightly out of date. Jason and Kyle, the 2 regular doorman, are about the most polite, well mannered and aware doorman i've dealt with.

Although the venue did have some complete berks prior to that.

The real shame for me is the fact that the building was just beginning to gain a good profile (mainly due to Jaunt if I'm honest) and now all of the other promoters who wanted to us it are going to have to go back to square one with a new venue, which will no doubt still offer up all of the same management/equipment problems as the red rooms, a long with being off "the radar" for the majority of newcastle.

Who knows though, maybe the red rooms existence was making people lazy and now they might go out and find something better that fulfills the same function.

    I'd like to think so

'The Red Rooms' stinks but at the same time, in some ways, it also rocks. All nightclubs should be dingy, painted red and green and have low black ceilings, yagetme!

P.S. Sascha Dive is WELL boring innit!

    * edit,,, sorry, someone just pointed out that he plays 'proper' house music, which is cool now.

Sascha Dive is WELL wicked n' ting innit!

newcastle has always been and will continue to be dominated by club owners wanting to squeeze the hell out of beer profits on a friday and saturday night, so youll see this scenario happening time and time again

and most "underground" club nights dont deliver huge bar takings

hence why the town is dominated by a plethora of cheezetastic blue bambu type establishments and indie guff

the one venue Ive seen that seems to be more focussed on pushing the musical boundaries is the END

also when there is a new venue discovered or an old venue is revamped every man and his rave dog jump on it as for the most part the majority of people out there are followers without their own original ideas....so then you end up with venue saturation with a host of cloned nights and people get bored of the venue in question very quickly

the red rooms had its place, but luckily the backlash lot had the foresight to see what was coming and decamped to cooperage and the star shadow

re: the bouncers there was /is one who looks like yule bryner who was a proper berk

why dont jaunt just go to the cosmic ballroom, surely there are 2 slots up for offers, no???

Actually, my brevity probably appeared rude there(sorry), so i'll elaborate (although it's probably a topic for another thread - sorry for hijacking your thread lads... think of all the bumps though!).

    Every single person involved in
    Habit, Curves and Error_
Is still interested in continuing on at the Cosmic Ballroom and the club has no interest in saying goodbye to anyone.

We've got a new regular friday starting in november too.
It would have been October, but the Friday falls on Halloween and the promoter decided that they didn't want their launch hijacked by the date (So expect a halloween themed party for that date - more details of which are to follow).

We would have opted for the strippers, but the cleaners said no and the price of blackpudding cubes and ritz crackers has sky rocketed since the start of this doggarned credit crunch.

Does anyone fancy discussing Jaunt now?

theres a few inaccuracies in some of the info there but for the sake of the thread being unhijacked and peacful times best just leaving it at that

the cooperage is the anly place to be on halloween

I agree about the Hijacking, but I can't be expected not to respond to such a provocative post.

Despite whatever rumours anyone's heard (or propagated), the fact remains that every promoter who's been involved in Habit, Curves or Error_ has told me (within the last 2 weeks) that they wish to continue promoting at the Club on a Friday.

    FACT!

Ergo, no spaces on a Friday.

I had some 'PEX' bags when I was at school.

    Nike were always my favourite.
