    I think the point is that people should be taught about stuff like this so that they have more respect for life and other people not to put people on a downer MistaK.
    For some reason your post made me think of a poem we heard in school called 'first they came' about people not particularlly caring about the horrors other are/have been put through because it wasn't happening to them.

    Im sure the people in iraq and afghanistan think we are 'horrible fucking cunts' for invading their country, killing half a million of their people and making them dress up to have photos taken with our soldiers...

    ... Get real, the actions of soldiers and leaders in wartime DO NOT reflect the nature of the people they COMMAND.

    I dont condone the actions of my government, they stand for nothing i stand (more or less) .... but its not going to stop half the developed world thinking people like us are scum eh.

    I've found this thread interesting,enlightening, and utterly shocking all at once, so thanks for sharing. My view of it is the japanese clearly must have thought this was the correct thing to do at the time to benefit their research and improve their medical awareness and ultimately benefit the good people in their societies lives, that doesn't make any of it in anyway acceptable though. Its just a relief medical science has advanced since these autrocities, and learning about things like this does make people appreciate their own lives a lot more.

    If not, I may as well just ignore what Pol Pot did to the Cambodians, what Mugabe did to the Ndebeles, and what the Nazi's did to the Jews/homosexuals/gypsies/midgets........ Actually, I'll just ignore what is going on up the road in the indigenous 'settlements'. You can't be selective with history.

    I would rather that everyone had this drilled into their heads, so they remember and they would do everything possible to prevent a recurrance.

    yes, it's not pretty, some of it is pure evil, but reflects on the personalities of everyone. There are parts of all of us that are good, and others that we'd rather not show.

    it is better to face up to your demons and admit they are there, than ignore them and be haunted by them.

    none of us can be as cruel as all of us.

    if we do not remember/aren't taught about the mistakes of the past we are doomed to repeat them.

    and yes - the british have been/still are cruel, humans are cruel - it makes no difference where you come from - it just depends what law enforcement there is to sustain it.
