    The Boards Contribution

Well well well, what a week in the fickle landscape that is clubbing in Newcastle upon Tyne! First - all the nights leave Digital after it's been going down hill for a year, rumours are rife about new venues, new nights, then in a huge upset - EVERYONE goes back - BUT the ploy has worked - the original owners are back at the helm - So here's a few questions that i think the community should answer

Are you happy with the OVERALL outcome? i.e. orignal owners in charge

Do you think there will be any changes?

Do you think the support received from this board contributed to the descision?

Will you be going back as normal?

Personally, for Digital and the nights involved, it's the best outcome they could have hoped for and i'm very happy for them! They've got what they wanted by going out on a limb but i also believe that the pressure from the punter also help sway the situation

Not really, i would have rather have seen some kind of severe cutback and a bit of a 'return to the past' in terms of picking some established and less mainstream 'mcVenues' (thanks Melt).

Doubtful, i think the changes behind the scene are probably more to do with money than they are meeting the needs of their customers. I'd love to be wrong about that one but i've yet to hear anything from a club promoter about seriously sorting out alot of the gripes the vocal minority on here make .... Apart from the shindig boys who seemed genuinely bothered about some of the rougher elements coming in.

Not really. Im sure the decision was more about wealthy men trying to protect their wealth and revenue streams moreso than anything else.

Probably, but ill try and go less and less, unless theres someone i really want to see playing (even if we have to put up with it being at Digital).

    Not fussed

Do you think there will be any changes?

Probably not unless they paint the ceiling

Do you think the support received from this board contributed to the descision?

I think this board and facebook helped out quite a bit

Will you be going back as normal?

    I rarely go

I'm happy the club nights have secured a venue, even if the prospect of a "new" venue was exciting.

Yeah, but when they come and what they'll be I have no idea. A lot of people have complained about the layout of the club but I doubt we'll see any big changes in that respect, but we may be surprised with what they can, and might, actually do.

No. I think it was a well thought out decision by the club nights involved to stick together and walk. Without them, it was never going to work - despite what Joe says.

    Yes

It's laughable to think the board had any contribution.

the club was pretty empty on the thurs/fri/sat nights - don't you think the internet played a part in getting that message out?

Quite possibly. But it didn't seem like that's what you were asking.

Was your question really just 'Did the internet do a good job of letting people know a couple of nights in town were cancelled/mmoved?'?

HAHAHA yes, WE made him sell his shares back!!!

i was more thinking about the pressure and support given to the nights and people voting with their feet!

I definitely feel this has been a "power to the promoters/power to the people" type affair.

It seems the little people have won.

I don't think going to Stereo instead of Digital counts as voting with your feet. You didn't have a vote to start with.

And on hearing the news the nights were leaving, most people responded 'great, I think it's a shit club'. This probably isn't so supportive seeing as they're moving back.

And the idea that 10-15 people whinging or supporting anything on a message board would change the minds of people organising business ideas/moves involving thousands and thousands of pounds is, well, laughable.

The only support that counted was the people turning up at the nights and not turning up at digital. Us bickering on the internet about possible outcomes and moaning about digital had nowt to do with it. The nights own inhouse promotion (Facebook, mailing lists, myspace etc.) had far more impact than 3 or 4 forums with a few regular contributors.

I think you're wrong on that one. Cosmic was the venue of Sone love and it was rammed. Ultimate leisure have no ownership of Stereo. All that revenue from the punter went straight in StereoCorps' coffers. That's 600 punters from turbulence and however many shindig got in. It must have hit them pretty hard and scared them back onto the negotiation table.

why does anyone feel sorry for any of the parties concerned

both sets of business men, the old lot and the new lot are minted to the point that only a few will experience in their lifetime

if you were walking across the road they would probably mow you down in their limo before they stopped to say hello.

those peeps selling their controlling stake in the first place is surely a basic school boy error of the highest level to say the least.

end of the day the only night I had genuine sympathy for being in the situation of possibly being out on their ear is turbulence

tbh , if the situation had of continued like it did it would have thinned the nights out a bit and the crap ones that couldnt weather the storm would have folded

its amusing to see these nights banging on that they are the underground and they are with all us independent nights and 5 days later complete u turn and they are back in bed with digital

    what a surprise
