Paypal help Has anyone used this recently? I have a buyer wanting me to post an item to nigeria, Im a bit confused and wary as i recieved an email which went into my junk folder supposedly from pay pal requesting me to send a proof of postage before I would recieve my payment, the email address was Service@Paypal.com, but i recieved an email earlier in the day from ebay/paypal and the email was service@paypal.com (no capital letters in the email) Does this make a difference to the email??? am i being blonde? or am i being ripped off? its the first time Iv sold on ebay so any help appreciated
One of them tried the same thing with me when I was selling a phone on there. A couple of them had bidded it up to £1000 tho so it was obviously a scam.
It is a phone Im selling like, Iv stated on my item that i will only deliver in th UK and Im not recieving payment via Paypal, only postal order or bank transfer, im in no hurry to sell it.
Just leave it Zoe, i'm sure the phone will sell. You shouldnt be getting an email about postage from Paypal anyway.....you'd get that from ebay. I had one (well same sorta thing) a few weeks ago......report it to ebay....send it to them so that they are aware of it Craig_M...I was selling a phone and that happened to me too!! Dodgy stuff!!! It was some man from Nigeria, he bid somethig stupid like £1120 for a phone that was only worth 50 at the most!
haha, they must be canny desprate to make phone calls over in Nigeria! Its daft how they go to so much trouble to think it all up and then mess it up by doing something as silly as that. Bet there'd be some people fall for it if they just left it at normal prices lol
sounds like a scam to me. If they want you to post it via royal mail its defo a scam, as once you post something via royal mail its classed as property of the addressee and they wont retrieve it
Send it to spoof@paypal.com and they'll tell you for sure. Sam's right though, you wouldn't get something like that from paypal. Also, if they are any links in the email, don't click on them as it will probably lead you to a 'fake' paypal site.
I'v reported it to ebay and paypal. I never clicked anything on link and have relisted the phone, I thought it was dodgy straight away like. If anyone wants to buy a K810i give me a pm
i had the samething mate, and i was selling a phone also check the url it says its from paypal but next to that its got his email @gmail
its an old scam, to get proof of postage you have to post it, once you send them proof no money is ever transferred and you cant get your phone back.
yeah that is deffo a spoofed email address relist the item and but it in massive writing that you want uk bidders only, you will post to uk only, and no nigerian scammers, thanks.
My sister was ripped off with the exact same scam! Ebay and paypal will always stress NOT to post something until you have recieved payment, and that payment has cleared. If you post it before you get the payment, what's to say the other person will ever pay you? Def a scam!
Dodgy Nigerian gits! As well as a free phone if duped and send before payment received, I also understand they use the proof of postage to claim or to use as a postage example in another scam!
I'm a bit wary to use paypal now, Iv reported the 2nd emails etc to ebay and paypal, but is paypal safe to use still?
Just post it, you'll be fine... I got an email from Nigerian Royalty the other week and in exchange for my bank details he is going to give me £18,000,000,000 because his family are dead and he wants to give me the money. I ignored the fact that he couldn't spell Nigeria or Royalty. I can't wait to spend all that money!
yeah, it's safe to use paypal - just don't have your ebay and paypal accounts as the same password - and just be wary. Anyone can spoof anyones email, it just happens people choose paypal as it's the biggest. i always say 'UK ONLY' on my auctions and be suspicious of bids from people with low feedbacks. also, check the dates feedbacks were made - if u find there's tons of feedback, made all on the same day - thats dodgy. it's safe, just got to think about every sale u make and payment u send - it's easy because it's online and not real money in your hand, to be complacent.
