any car mechanics on the baord?

im wanting to know how much work is involved in changing the clutch on a mk1 clio rsi, 1.8 8v? i have 2 mates who are mechanics/fitters but they are both specialising in certain makes so have no exp with renault - any idea on the work involved... ie gearbox out etc

    cheers :)

most cars (clios included) have the engine mounted sideways which means changing a clutch is a right fuck on, on some cars you have to take one of the wings off just to get at it.

Not an easy job and could take you a fair bit of time to do on your jack jones.

If you're hellbent on doing it, a haynes manual and some tools might be handy ;)

oo if there are any car mechanics can you tell me why my car won't start please?? It's got a brand new battery, and yes there is petrol in it, turns over when I turn the key, sometimes catches and then dies. Seems to happen most when it's cold but it's very unreliable... is there anything wrong with it or is it just the weather?? Can anyone help?

    Spark plug?

spark plugs, dodgy HT Leads - something like that.

Spark plugs are 2.50 each, set of HT leads - 30-40 quid - replace them anyway, anyone can do it as long as you have a spark plug socket  Cheap and well easy and ANYONE can do it, take 20mins

Just got a set of new plugs so it can't be that...

thats why it's always good to replace the HT leads as well - sounds like it's not sparking properly. Otherwise, could next replace the distributor cap, check for cracks

get someone to push start your car, if it starts there's a good chance it might be that.

what car you got? and for stephen? renault quote 9 hours labour for the clutch on a clio cos the mk1 is a right bastard to do, its the subframe which gives you the most trouble like

i wouldnt imagine it wouldnt be the fuel line or owt, bad weather cant affect the flow of a fuel line unless its minus 40. however if it is dodgy could be owt from moisture in the ignition system to dodgy connections.

do you have complete power to your lights and wipers when u turn the key?
