that will be the pleasure rooms then !

you'll not no this but that USED to be an absolute corker of a club before the scouse house revolution took over ! it used to be a proper grimey afterhours playing decent techno/trance/harddance depending on what was on in liverpool that night, then they spent a shit load on doin it up and have needed to make the dollar back so went all fuckin comercial. i wouldn't mind but it was doin alright as it was !

I'm having this dilemma :( I've had to book a cheesey disco for my wedding, just so it will keep everyone else happy, but I don't want to listen to crap pop music all night :( cant imagine anything worse. I point blank refuse to have any r'n'b music played aswell.
I've got to the point where I've started to compile a cd with some decent songs on, just so theres a bit of something that me and my 'younger' friends will like.

you should definitely organise a meeting with the dj at least a few weeks before the big day so he knows what he has to avoid and what he has to play.

you should actually have a meeting long before this in case the dj is not comfortable with the way you want the night to go, then another brief one just before to make sure he is on the same page as you still.

it is your day, and it should be how you want it. you are paying for a service, so you can be as picky as you like. it just means you might not use the first dj you ask.

a cd compilation as a rough guide will also be very beneficial to both you and the dj and will serve as a great guide for the dj to prepare music for the event.

do not expect him to get to the venue with every single song ever made, if you have something you want to hear, write it down and give him plenty of notice to get it/them. make a list if you have to.

most people dont think any where near this kind of thing and just hire a mobile dj out the paper then complain about him being crap afterwards. do a small meeting with a reputable company first and that will be one less worry on your mind when the tension will be high/you're mortal :)

this is just a couple of ideas off the top of my head, and something that i would make a big point in being involved in had i been interested in doing weddings. i hope this helps a bit :)

best bet I reckon is to go for something slightly off the wall, like a funk / soul covers band (think the commitments, but hopefully without the fighting), or someone who dj's 1940's doo wap. Tell everyone in advance & get them to wear proper ball dresses & stuff. That way it'll stop everyone hastling the dj for sugar babes / nirvana & clearing the dancefloor every 10 minutes with some dire track, plus the grannies will love it, and once you've got the grannies dancing everyone else feels obliged to join in.

There's a class newcastle based band called funk conspiracy that do weddings as a covers band, they're not that cheap, but have the full pa, lights etc and probably only work out a few hundred more than some random wedding dj. They also play out as groovenick, playing their own original funk stuff, played at the sage a few times.

    pm's if you're interested.
