    30 Days of Night.

Watched this last night and totally loved it.

It fucks off the slightly romantic aspect of Vampirism and turns them into proper savage hunters.

They are total evil fuckers, proper Shark-like. It was genuinely unsettling and claustrophobic, with a total "they're fucked" feeling running through it.

It's more like a survival-horror than a horror, with the story taking the side of the "prey" rather then with the Vampires themselves.

    Loved everything about it.

    I'd give it a strong 9/10.

I thought this was really good and I'm not normally into my horrors, especially vampire films. the vampires in this arnt the usual black leather trench coat wearing, pill popping, motorbike riding, goths that you usually see. They're alot scarier.

    Re: 30 Days of Night.

I hated the fact they did what every other horror does and have some cunt shouting when they're hiding and trying to be quiet. |Also that old timer who wouldn't fucking behave and pipe down!.

    "it's those damn sasquatch again!".

Fucking shut up ya fucking numpty!

yeah this was alot better than those other camp films where they all listen to goth music and have them leather overcoats and big black boots with metal bits on them. still a few cliche moments aswell but still definately worth a look

Why the vampires suddenly appeared, what that bloke that appeared at the beginning had to do with it, surely they would have asked him more questions??!! I just thought there should have been more explinations

They appeared because they wanted to drink everyones blood. i thought they made that very clear by showing you them actually biting them and then drinking there blood.

That bloke helped them because he wanted to be turned into one. It didn't need to explain how he met them because it wasn't important.

Yeah your right, those points don't constitite plot holes, they're just bits of information we weren't given.

I've heard lots of people criticise the fact it's not explained where the Vampires come from. That is actually one of my favourite things about the film, the lack of backstory & characterisation of the Vampires.

Most contemporary Vampire films always introduce us to, or at least give a backstory to the Vampires. From Nosferatu to Interview With The Vampire to Blade, we always get some sort of information about them or their origin or their motivations or whatever.

In this film as a viewer we're put in the same position as the townsfolk - we know nothing about these creatures or where they've came from, just that they've isolated and invaded the town and are feeding on it's people.

I for one like the lack of information, a lot of films over-explain points these days.

    Gutted. dissapointed.

    I NEED EXPLANATIONS!

i'm guessing they came from that boat it showed, looked like an old cruise liner, plus the vampries looked all smartly dressed, dinner jackets and that woman had a dinner gown on - but where DID the fella come from - did he come with them on the boat?

    pah.

i need answers in life, this gave me none.

effects were good, cgi to minimum. Not bad but left me dissapointed overall.

In the comics the vampires show up because a vampire thinks it would be fun to go somewhere and eat loads of people without worrying about daylight and getting caught. So he organizes it over the internet and has them all arrive (though they actually seem to fly/walk/snowmobile to the site). Then a head honcho vamp gets wind of the extravaganza and shows up mighty pissed that all the effort of making humans believe that vampires are just legends has been squandered. So head honcho vamp kills organizing vamp, but this gains the humans of Barrow nothing because they'll still have to die anyway.
