    i thought people said they were from Newcastle as it was the closest city to them - making it easier to say where they're from on a global scale

    saying 'Newcastle' is a lot easier than saying 'i live in a small fishing town on the coast 15 miles north east of the city of Newcastle'

    I am proud of my accent & the City I am from. the residential area where I live is different Lol.
    I cant understad folk that get famous/shag somebody famous & attend elecution lessons to loose their accent? I love the Geordie accent.
    E.g. Donner Air, Sting, Robson Green, that lass from girls aloud, Ant & Dec......

    Thats me, live in Amble about 25 miles to the NE of Newcastle. I always make a point of stating I'm not a Geordie and refusing to say "Byker Grove" upon request when I go on holiday etc.. Im Northumbrian and proud of it :D
