That's like rating Newcastle based solely on Benwell or Elswick!

    Glasgow is an awesome city.

I cant believe Edinburgh won it - i wonder just how 'fair' the poll was.

The statistics seemed naff as as well .... they said 2/3 of the people held degrees or the equivalent? I have a hard time believing that.

A few poncy overpriced victorian and regency buildings and a harvey nicholls dont make a 'number one' place to live in my books.

If anything, i'd rate Manchester, Newcastle up north and places like Guildford, Richmond and the typical southern destinations as the best places to live.

I just love the view of boro when you're driving down the A19, it reminds me of Chenobyl (after the accident).

One of the worst places I've been to has to be Bradford like. Middlesbrough is bad but it's a paradise compared to some places in the UK.

    cos i've been at work!

I love the Boro, it's a down to earth town with no frills. Plus parmo's are class.

It has some awful areas, some really poor areas and some downright dangerous areas. Most towns and cities do; It's more to do with the lack of money in the region, but there are impressive regeneration plans... and about time as both Newcastle and Sunderland have recieved substantial investment and turned shite areas into decent areas... it can be done; although Middlesbrough will always be industrial and that is nothing to be ashamed of, in fact it's a neccessity for all of us and I find it very bizarre and slightly hypocritical anyone from the northeast would look down on somewhere else for having industry.

That said I was born in Boro but grew up much further south in Saltburn. Some of Boro's suburbs and surrounding villages are beautiful, and the countryside is breathtaking so I take these kind of programs with a large pinch of salt. :)

Anyhow this fellah sums it up better than I can...http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7046579.stm
