i stareted with fruity loops which is a piece of piss to pick up and get an idea of how you want things to sound, getting used to synthesis etc, using ableton live 6 now and if i were you id just jump straight into something like that!

each to their own like try a few different packages and see which one better suits yourself! :D

Acid is a peice of piss to use. All you need is the program and a load of sound (.wav) files and you are away. As you put the sound files into the program, it automatically has puts them all at the same tempo you have set for the track, easy as. There's loads of fx in the program too.

Can you make your own drum beats, bass lines etc on Acid? If no, would you say Ableton is easy enough to use for a beginer? Don't like the structure of fruity loops.
(Also, any idea where to get a 'cheaper' version than the retail?)
    Cheers for everyone's help :)

What is there not to be liked about the layout of fruity loops, it's uber simple and fun too - If it's because you don't understand it then I deffinatley wouldnt bother using something like ableton. Get amongst fruity loops first like, you need to kno how music's structured etc and I think it's a good one to start with :D

Ableton has some very good interactive tutorials that come with that that show you the basics. They are very easy to follow
