Blacks to me seem OBSESSED with "bling" and creating a false sense of wealth. When do you ever see a hoochy mama without a fake Louie Vouton handbag or big gold jewelly? The blokes are the same they love a rich car even if they can afford to put a 1/4 a tank of petrol in it at a time! Everywhere you look in their culture its bling, designer, over the top gaurdy home furnishings etc etc. A young black lad wouldnt even leave the house with the right pair of sneaks on. Now they are risking life and prison time to get stuff like the above.... they crave it beyond normality. WHY???
It's the yoof culture of today innit. The people showing up on the photos of the looting aren't all black/asian, this is more about class and age than race. Everyone's wanting the latest shiny, technological fashion accessory, it's descended into that sort of shallow competition, like keeping up with the chav joneses. It's inevitable when we are bombarded with advertising 24/7 about gadgets, brands, and fashion. It's not about poverty, they've seen an excuse in the latest riots to nick stuff whilst the police are occupied and then they've gone for it.
But thats a contradiction, if "Everyones" wanting, why are mainly just the blacks looting it? The looting IS mainly blacks so the LOOTING is a race issue, maybe the overiding riots isnt as that seems to have afew more whites, but thats no suprise the chavs will run along with anything thats fun and anti cop. Exactly the same is seen in every riot iv ever seen on TV esp in America. They all make for the posh shops and TV's. Its more than greed just look at them walking down the street full of fake bling and wealth. Naybe it go's back to when they had nothing to they feel like they have to show they have something now, i dunno

I know that some of the people arrested in London included Graphic Designers, Graduates, youth workers, and a guy who'd just joined the army. I blame our society's glamourization of possessions and materialism for all the nicking. People see an opportunity to go on the rob. I remember seeing in a security manual at a former place of work that 80% of people would try and steal something if they were given the opportunity and there was no possibility of getting caught....
A few seasons ago the NBA introduced dress code rules which gained the tag of "NBA BLING BAN" & was classed as racist by some. Yeh - I think its comparable to Chavs (burberry, rockports, trackies, caps, hoodies) or goths (long coats, war paint, hair, dark clothes), they (majority) just get sucked into the stereotypical image I think a lot of people feel safer latching onto an identity, rather than being their own person these days.
