People can say what they want, fickle or not, but the fact is that regardless of the money Sunderland take for him, unless he is replaced by a proven Premier League goalscorer (sometimes even that doesn't come with a guarantee) then the chances of qualifying for Yewrup this year will definitely be smaller.

Bringing a Suarez, Forlan, Pavlyuchenko or whoever else in will take time to gel, if they even do at all.

"I can't believe how well it's gone. If the offer of an extension came up I'd be more than happy to sign it." December 2010.

"Seeing and hearing the reception he got just drives me on to want to follow in his footsteps and become a legend." Talking about SKP, Summer 2010.

Apologies for not taking anything he says seriously, though on track record he will be sitting at another press conference in 2 years time reeling out the same "massive club" lines that he has said at each of his last 3 clubs...

Still, you can't knock the £18m (+extras) that you lot have got for him.

No doubt Mike Ashley is busy wanking himself into oblivion thinking of how many pasties he could get for flogging Carroll to Spurs...

You'll have to replace him, where the fuck is another 20+ a season top flight goalscorer in your squad?

    Exactly.

We will replace him in the summer. Theres no way that we will go out and pay a massively inflated fee now and waste the money we got, nor would I want us to.

Bothroyd will be good business - cheap enough as hes out of contract in the summer and provide cover for our first choice strike pairing for the rest of the season - Gyan and Welbeck.

I can see some of the money being used to try and bring in some goals from midfield - apparently Sessegnon has a medical booked for Friday and there has been enquiries made for N'Zogbia today, as so far this season we have had 3 strikers scoring goals though fuck all from anywhere else.

Bothroyd is crap as one season wonder. Stay clear even if out of contract. Will Bruce dabble in the South American market as going off his recent SA signings he should stay well clear.

Good deal for Villa & SAFC. Sunderland did well not to take any junk like Carew, Heskey & Ireland off Villa as part of the deal. Villa should easily stay up now.

Bent never worked well with Jones or Gyan but he was one hell of a goalscorer.

I wouldnt bother replacing him now, just wait till the summer. I'm a bit miffed with all the fannying on about the fee. I dont know whats accurate here but if its only 18 million upfront and we have to give spurs 4-5 million sell on fee then its not quite the mega deal it seemed

Apparently the £6m they got upfront for Bent is going directly to spurs as a sell-on fee they put in Bents contract!

Curse those wily, shyster yid bastards!

Its short term cover with premiership experience. Decent move from Bruce IMO in the circumstances.

With everyone fit he will be 4th choice behind Gyan, Welbeck and Campbell. Who would be your 4th choice forward, Xisco?

    I rest my case.

Bruce found Jones frustrating I look forward to seeing him deal with Fuller. Rik would have been decent signing if SAFC had a pre-season to get him into shape as he looks out of shape again, saw him play Cardiff during the week & he was useless.
Carew on loan till the end of the season or Fuller for £3 million? Carew everytime for me. Stoke have done well here, although I cant really see Carew & Jones upfront together that often.

Fuller is one of those players that would be decent if he could be bothered imo. Only seems to turn up once every few matches, but maybe's Brucey can get the best out of him. Probably the best you could hope for given the situation, without having to pay a crazy sum because everyone knows how much they got for Bent.
Xisco is hardly our fourth striker by the way, although Lovenkrands or Ranger aren't a much better option at the mo. I'd rather have Fuller than Best tho, despite his hat-tick
