I hate playing with vinyl - takes too much of a light touch, too much ongoing maintainance (needles/carts) and they are too fragile. Also cost way too much.

With legal tune downloads only around a £1 these days if you shop in the right places, its hard to entertain the idea of paying 7-8 quid for a tune which has to be delivered as opposed to a tune that is on a cdr and playing on your cdj's within 10 minutes of buying it.

Having said that, i have total respect for vinyl jocks and what they do, just not for me.

I agree C.D's are good value, I think some of the quailty is not on the same level as vinyl however. I also think C.D's are very convienant, carrying a C.D wallet is better than lugging round a massive UDG bag.

The C.D decks hold loads of new features that open the door to a wide range of techneques and I definatley suppoprt them, but vinyl is still the one for me. I have been working on 1 CDJ and two technics which is good for me, for the time being.

I am also having trouble finding a deciant techno down load web site, I have started copying my vinyl onto C.D. but it takes too long:(

i love mixing with my vinyl but cds are the practical choice...

will never get rid of my decks as i've got a lot of classics on vinyl which are always fun to bring out and have a mix with but i'm looking into getting a couple of cdjs

What websites you using Si? Apart from Acidjelly of course:wink:

I'm still 80 - 90% vinyl at the minute. When I'm looking for a tune that i'm after, I'll do a google search and if I can't get a hold of it on vinyl, I'll happily pay to download it, I just haven't found a download website as reliable as Juno.co.uk for having the tunes I want. Any ideas?

CDs decks are brilliant and you can obviously get a lot more tunes a lot easier as stated earlier but i think i will always keep at least one of my record decks, i really love mixing with vinyl.

pvd almost never uses mp3's. all the tracks he uses with final scratch are uncompressed aiff files.

You say this quite a bit, but I don't see how you can say this when you get live artists playing through sound systems and they sound perfectly alright - it IS down to quality at the moment - it's just not good enough because of the compression involved - you're removing very small parts of the wave so by the nature of the process involved you MUST loose some quality from wav as some frequencies etc aren't there.

The fact is CDs are mastered slightly different to vinyl because of the environment they are played in - ie generally on a home hi-fi, not a large sound system. But if you play a track recorded from vinyl and uncompressed and put it on a CD the only way you could tell the difference from the vinyl would be because of the quality of the AD/DA converters used in the equipment. Whereas with mp3s it is down to both the original encoding of the mp3, and the fact that it isn't an exact copy of the original - it has been compressed so it's bound to sound different.

A CDJ800 is not much more than a 1210. Plus you can get cheaper CD decks if you can't afford them

    i wish i had now!

looks the sensible choice, considering the money you'll save.

if i had to choose purely one, id choose vinyl anyday personally.

i do play stuff off cd when i play out, but i only download stuff onto cd that i cant get on vinyl, as i generally prefer using vinyl!!
