    Whitley Bay

While going for a dump I was unable to locate anything decent to read, so made do with the News Guardian. So Woolies is gone from the Bay, TJ Allen is going & M & S Simply Food is simply going.

The place will be a ghost town.

The days of a day out a the Leisure pool, a stroll down the beach & then waxing all your cash on Double Dragon at the arcades remind me of happier times in Whitley Bay.

My memories of Whitley bay were it being a ghost town .... hanging around the arcades in my Nevica jacket, so we could clock the Street fighter machine on 30p, before heading up the chemists and shoplifting a highland toffee bar.

    Are the arcades still there?

Some are but very few & with the power of consoles they have hardly any arcade games in, they are places that mainly have bandits/slot machines in & that horse racing game were it is always wise to use one of your bets on the red jockey.

the bars have killed it as a nice place to go - pissed up twats dropping kebab meat on the pavements at 2 in the afternoon.

it's a shame all the shops shutting - there's nothing going to replace them they'll sit there empty.

If you know where & where not to drink in Whitley Bay, it's still a good day/night out on the lash! When i say where not; i mean anything that's past fitzys, everything down 'the strip' basically.

The only shop i was bothered about losing was 'Urban myth', the surf/skate shop on Park view :(

M&S is the most pointless shop in existance & i'm glad it's going!

I know i'd rather live around here than anywhere else in Tyne & Wear though ;)

Ahh thats where i used to go :)

.... Shame to see them die ... although nobody plays these things any more so the only thing they can make money from is bandits.... which seem to be like catnip to chav's.

There was a piece on Look North about it last week. They said the only place doing any decent trade is Greggs. It then showed a shot of my Mum walking in
