Which will be the new sound of club culture? Ok, we have all seen and experienced different forms of dance music progression. I started out with Hardcore, then to house music (dunno how the transformation went there) then to trance and im now getting into techno. There was a huge hard house phase which has dwindled a bit, but hasnt disappeared. Trance is the main player of club culture at the moment, whether it be prog trance, euphoric trance or tech trance but we all know it wont last, just like the previous club sounds. So, what are everyones feelings and thoughts on the NEXT movement of sound in club culture. Would anyone like to predict? just thought we could share opinions on this as Promise's sound and music policy will change in the future and wonder where its sound may go or where everyone would like it to go.
i'm kinda behind the times i think... im just getting into promise style prog trance, so i hope it stays that way for a bit, but as ppl grow older tastes change.... i used to like steps FFS.
STEPS!!!!!!!!!! fookin hell no comment *drops down dead on floor in amazement chokin on vomit in open plan office, everyone wondering why im having a fit then reads my screen and the contageous germ of the steps revolution creates a quarantined area of 3 miles around our office
Funky house... At the moment every cool clubber I know preffers their funky house nights, every1 I used to do sunnyd in rbum with is now going to babooshka, laodsa crasher kdis are now doing bed, london is torn between hard house and funky house, newcastle is dominated by shindig, etc. Funky house is deffo the coolest music at the moment, but this could change tomorrow... I think clubland is going through a huge slump at the moment, people are just getting bored... in the 80's house brought the first big wave, then in the early - mid 90's hardcore brought the next big wave, late 90's - present was trance... but trance as we know it is getting old now... I personally hope the hard trance which fuses hard house and trance could be the way forward... whether u call it hard trance, german techno, warp trance, hard house, whatever this seems to be the music with most energy - I hope this picks clubland up. Does anyone reckon that drugs ahve anything to do with the demise of clubland... in the begining e was just new and amazing, people got bored after awhile, then there was an influx of doves and better quality pills when hardcore took off, people got bored after while though then mitsi's were introduced in the summer of love and everything kicked off again... now the average pill is shite again.... does anyone reckon the quality of pills effect clubbing? If they do its quite a sad state of affairs
well, this has been an ongoing investigation for years. Its worth writing an essay on but i cant be arsed to do it. From what yer saying Smart E it seems as if yer depicting drugs actually control the clubbing scene. Which in reality they do have a HUGE impact on it. Now if this is true then i think it is quite sad. The thing is its more about the music. Everyone knows there is drugs in clubs and really we shouldnt need them. It should be about the music bringing people together and getting along. But because drugs make it easier for you to get along with people, are we in fact saying that if nobody took drugs then everyone in the club would eb a bit nastier and there could be fights etc...and it would be full of beerboys??? club culture works in strange ways, i dont think anyone can predict what is to happen, i just wondered on your views personally.... wonder if promise will keep up or stay ahead, i hope so But, only time can tell......
hmmmm thats bad though, shouldnt be like that. Anyways, what type of drug??? i know what your thinkin of Smart E pants........
lol nah it will always be pills... people are bored of pills now though so try alternatives like base, ket, ghb, etc. As soon as the next super pill comes along I think it will have a huge impact on clubbing... when doves and mitsi's came out people were getting tattoo's, clothes, etc. you'd walk into a club and see a huge mitsi sign hanging from the roof... they had a huge impact... there is nothing like that now and I think that has a huge part to play in the current slump. We just have to wait for the new generation of clubbers, music and drugs. I reckon we could have a little wager on this - my prediction is: Hard Trance will be huge in 2005 and everyone will be dropping zebra's
I think the various strands will change and adapt as usual. For example, trance was soooo 1999, then hard house got big in 2000 and pushed trance out of the way. Things went a bit proggy in 2001, with hard house still there. Then more recently trance picked up on the fact that huge numbers of those who had liked trance had gone over to hard house, and so harder trance was born to keep trance alive! All the strands influence each other. Funky is definitely on the way back up, which is in turn influencing a funkier side of hard house. Then there is the darker side of hard house which seems to have been influenced (a bit) by last year's progressive. That's what I think anyway!
I guess I just know more about that side of things! My main point was that whatever is big this year will influence other strands next year.
Just to back up what Phil is saying, that CD is fooking amazing! However I think the next big thing is going to be toughed up Hard Trance (i.e Scot Project)
i sed i used to like steps, ive seen the error of my ways but im all up for hard trance and funky hard house and the next drug will be YALE trust me, im a doctor
