Want to help the local dance music scene? take some words from Mr C "I've seen it work in many places where a local DJ has started a small event for say 100 people & built it up. If a DJ can't pull 100 mates locally, even in peoples houses at first like i used to do back in 86 / '87 then they shouldn't call themselves a DJ but a bedroom mixer! DJs must have social skills as well as mixing ability which means pulling together mates & like minded people to have fun & enjoy.... everyone likes a good jolly up & if a local DJ can get something fun going in their local area that's small then for sure the word will spread as people that have a great night out will want to share that with their friends....... this is how a scene gets built... that also means doing small afters at mates houses etc too. There's so much more to being a DJ than simply putting a few tunes together. Neally all of my mates have got decks at home & have been mixing it up for years but most of them don't have what it takes to make lots of new mates & pull them together for a knees up.... or they're to fucking lazy..... so why should clubs book these locals if they can't put bums on seats? It's up to the locals to establish a small thing for themselves which the clubs will pick up on & it's then that these local DJs will deserve a booking. I get my mates asking all the time for a booking but fuck that... why should i when they don't pay their dues...... just because they're my mate don't mean that i owe them a career, they have to earn that for themselves the same way i did by getting out there & getting to know everyone in their area who into the same shit & pulling them together to have a good time. that's my 2 peneth on the matter..... put in some effort , crack on & watch the results! GOOD LUCK!"
Thats spot on I know a couple of lads who are mint at mixing but they havent got the personaility or drive to be a DJ so they'll spend there lives whinging that theyre better mixers than the djs that they hear on a night out but never do anything about it
Thats some really good advice, and it's certainly more fun playing when all of your mates are around you My first three or four gigs were get-togethers for mates birthdays and stuff...
Just round and about in consett, I can't do much else until I've learned how to drive and can travel to play.
get yourself onto www.northeastclublife.co.uk/forum your stuff will probably be a bit more appreciated there
