bloke i work with drinks with an ex legionaire

he had to attempt to kill himself to get back to civilisation, then desert from the hospital an get back home (apparently).

7yrs minimum service i think, and im sure if you desert and they find you your destined for the bastille,

wasnt there not a reality stylie tv show on it ???

its just the garlic sas innit???

From what i've read it's 4 years, just like the British army. Desertion is still rife apparently but i wouldn't dare get on the train if it wasn't exactly what i was after!

 @ the Garlic SAS! They are considered elite, but i doubt they are that elite!

It's not really about the money though.

But, if you wanted to look at it like that; it's actually £600 a month after food/accommodation is paid for (even then that's the very minimum)...which you don't really get a chance to spend anyway!

i knew a lad that went in years ago
he said it was just a place for criminals on the run from authorities when he was in but its all changed now due to e.u laws.when he was in he was facing 10yrs for a murder he never commited (self defence) but he went on the run to the legion, apparently there were dozens of the same in there.
he was in gabon for 5 years before he left and he is now head of security for a rich familly in corsica.after the five years he became a french citizen and changed his name in france before getting married to an italian girl (federica) who oddly was the girl that the fight that led to the "murder" was over.
they have been together now for 5 years and he loves it over there.

The should make a film about his life.

    Romance
    Deaths
    Foreign locations

and a happily ever after ending.
