Tax cars in proportion to their fuel use. There is rarely any justification for 'gas-guzzling' cars beyond people's own ego / materialistic ends.

these huge 4x4 cars that use up so much fuel just to take the kids on a school run and are nothing more than a penis extension for some yuppie twat should be taxed to fuck

there are people who need bigger cars, like countryside workers... not city dwelling nonces with more £££ than sense. there are far more economical cars and in this day and age we should really be cracking down considering the evidence for the next 100 years is pretty bleak.

    tax the fuckers.

are you mad? it will encourage people to stop buying enviroment hammering chelsea tractors. they are the ones who will be effected. as long as you have a car relative to the size you need you shouldnt be complaining, it seems to me like a lot of the time you just like to moan ;)

  i'm not arsed about the daft big 4.5l 4x4 cunts down south im thinking of the average family here . i my self have a mondeo 2.0 5dr on account that i have a family and need to get them about in saftey and comfort as the rest of my family are live 40 miles or so away so i have a lot of motorway miles wich i wouldnt want to do in a small pokey car like my old punto, not with two kids on board anyway , im all for anty mesure's to reduce the CO2 emissions given out but i dont think that this form of taxation which will only really hurt the average family driver as these are the people who live on a tighter bread line. can you's not see this ?

The blanket criticism of 4x4s makes me laugh - I have an absolutely tiny one (Suzuki Vitara) that uses less petrol than many normal cars. How come no-one has a go at sports cars - some of them easily use as much as a mid-size 4x4? My mum and step dad have a larger 4x4 (I think it's a Nissan), which is diesel and has an amazingly low fuel consumption.

My Dad got a Toyota Prius a few months ago. His road tax is fuck all, he gets free parking in Sheffield and it does a silly amount of MPG.

    Hybrids.

Modern diesels are so good that there really is no excuse for not doing 40mpg.

My focus will do 55mpg driven carefully :D And it's still got a bit of punch in 2nd and 3rd.
