I live in Surrey, and work in it aswell ....... Its a massive county with more cities and things to do than your probably used to.

Woking is rubbish for nightlife, and is just a small commuter town.

Guildford is good for the restaurants and bars near the station for the student/booze thing.

Kingston is where you would go for commercial clubbing in places like Oceana and the Works.

Richmond is a bit like newcastle with its nightlife, but not many clubs (if any).

Thats just the places where i have lived, or work in ..... theres tons of other places, but if your looking for anything half way decent in the way of clubs your going to have to go into town (or Clapham at a bare minimum, which is NUMBER ONE place if your young, single, up for fun and have money to burn.)

My lass lives down there. I think it's the most boring place on earth. My lass wants me to move down there in the summer. Hmmm.....

Problem with Surrey is everything is fucking miles away from where you live. And it's full of tossers! And everyone is scared of each other. But maybe that's just my experience. I've been going back and forth for five years now. Maybe I've just come to expect it and don't give it a chance anymore. Houses and cars are immense in most areas.

Living in Surrey aint like living in the north east where theres a single town that everyone heads out to for a night out - You can pick and choose different places depending on the kind of night out you want.

Whether or not the place you got to has 'tossers' depends on where you go ....... same as any place really.

Costs a bomb though and everything is miles apart as you say - Can take anything up to 2 hours to get home depending on where you are, and where you need to go.

As a clubbing/party town, yeah theres nowhere quite like newcastle in the whole world IMHO ........ but unfortunately if you arent 16-35 and looking to get smashed, your options for what to do in the city centre on a night out suddenly become a bit limited.

Down south you have to put up with the cost and the hassle of getting around ...... but theres a million and one more places to go and things to see.

    I like both :)

To be honest, I shouldn't of used the word 'tossers'. I reckon my problem is that I don't think I've ever adapted to the massive culture difference. It's unreal how different it is! It really is like a different country.

I think it's probably safe to generalise and say the south 'lives to work' and the north 'works to live'.

I read that yesterday, i wouldnt mind trying it to see how they can justify the price but i bet i could make one for a fraction of that cost using cheaper ingredients and that it'd taste just as good :)

Just using nice beef and cheese from somewhere like Marksys as an example, or going to somewhere like well hung and tender in Alnwick - the meat they do is gorgeous and nowhere near £85

Absolutely - Newcastle is great for certain things, but when your young, free and single and out of university - London is THE place to be IMHO ..... theres no better place to have dozens of experiences and meet SOOOO many different types of people. I find Newcastle quite a claustrophobic place these days in comparrison - too many people doing all the same things.

On the other hand, it would be a perfect place to bring a family up in and settle down ..... the outskirts of the town in particular.

Some people need to do the whole 'capital' thing at one point i guess - to get it out of their system.

Maybe not like another country, but i definately did have to adjust to the people down here ....... living in newcastle all my life up till then made southerners come across as very different people i thought.

its not that the people are different, its because you are outside your comfort zone and the situation you are in is different.

People are all the same all over the world, you either get on with them or you dont...simple

The sooner people realise that then the sooner we can all love one another and swap wives without resentment

Alot of the things you take for granted in the north are unheard of in the south, or make you look like a murderer/rapist/wierdo.

People are generally silent on public transport, particularly the tube (unless its a saturday night). Taxi drivers are generally completely silent, unlike the motormouth northern types ;)

In bars and clubs, people generally DONT talk to each other at the bar, even just to be polite.

Peoples humour comes across as alot more cutting and sarcastic, whereas in the north it is more 'obvious' - its just the same really, just delivered in a different manner.

.... Theres loads of other things - just different ways of doing things, but for a while it did feel wierd aye.

Of course, ... everyone is the same - just the delivery is different.

Alot of the north/south rivalry is just the lack of understanding that different regions just have different accepted norms of doing and saying certain things.
