Sony to block imports of PS3's into europe not on the same importance scale as the usual stuff but it got me thinking. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/default.stm Sony says its gonna use the full scope of the law to make sure europeans cant get their hands on imported PS3's, how is this legal. isnt it fair to buy goods from other countries. its not as if someones importing crack or guns, its consumer electronics. to me it seems like theyre just trying to get europeans to pay more for them when they arrive. i cannot see how importing goods from another country such as these is illegal? there excuse is it doesnt conform to EU/UK safety standards and it wont play older european titles from the PS1 & PS2, and it wont have a manufacturers warranty? all that taken into consideration i still dont think it should be illegal to import one. or am i just being stupid and missing a valid point somewhere?
It's shit I don't quite understand what they're going to do to stop it though - sounds like they're trying to scare people in to not trying.
If the safety standards were such an issue it wouldn't be Sony sorting it out. Imagine if they had some deal set up where they were actually making more money off doing this. How fast would they be to point out that the safety standards aren't up to scratch. Everything else u mentioned is only a disadvantage to the consumer at which point Sony could turn around and say 'you bought it, it's not our problem'. that of course is only if they were making more money. Thieves!
Its been delayed over here till about march. Its region free so just take a holiday and bring one back from the states. Easy.

It's not like if you've got the cash it's any great hardship to have a holiday in the states Just have a weekend break to NY or something. Taking a few days purely to get a PS3 a few months early would be a major error though.
Just seen them in the catalogue, as much as I want one i'll be fooked if i'm paying £550 for it. I'd rather wait a year untill they drop in price. I was expecting £350-£400 tops but £550 for a console that looks like a slimline breadbin is way to much! Suppose it will be handy if you get hungry while playing on it though, just flip the front up and knock yourself a sarnie up
