PS3 Jailbreak Just heard about these USB devices today http://www.cardshere.co.uk/ps-jailbreak-for-ps3-plug-and-play.html Anyone used one before?I quite fancy getting one but it says they block forced updates so was wondering if it means you cant play online games with them as you need the newest firmware to sign into the PS network as I understand it? cheers
If you are bothered about playing online don't consider jailbreaking it because you'll most probably just get banned, if not now within a couple of months. Best bet is to buy a 2nd console, the money you save from not buying as many games make it more than worth it. Although saying that the PS3 network is shit anyways, mod the fucker and risk it
I only play COD online to be fair and Im shit at that, Im tempted to just not bother getting the new COD and do it.Havent really looked properly but Im not sure that this thing actually puts any software on the PS3
Ok Ive got an external, what if I update the firmware on my ps3 will the Jailbreak thing stop working?
At the moment it states "Any (FAT or SLIM) PlayStation 3 Console running firmware 3.41 or above." Xbox couldn't disable consoles with a firmware update but that was specifically flashed on the dvd drive but it's certain Sony are creating a firmware which would block or attempt to block the jailbreak since the code is open source. I'd personally not bother updating the firmware for the not so distant future if I was considering getting this mod just to be sure.
i have one. there's a few different types out there, make sure u get 1 of the usb dev kit ones that are upgradeable. some of the early 'ps3break' devices are not. you can pick them up for less than £20 No firmware later than 3.41 is hacked YET however there's been a few of the earlier firmwares being done so things are moving quite quickly. new medal of honor is the 1st confirmed new game to have the 'must be on fw3.42' message - but there's ways around it still. Also, some games have files bigger than 4GB and external drives have to be fat32 formatted (which doesn't support >4gb files) so for those games it's best to run it from the interal drives. Best option get a massive internet drive (but only 5400rpm).
where can one procure one of these usb thingies always? I havent upgraded my firmware for a good few months now (if not longer) and i have the thing connected to a 500gb drive i bought a few years ago, to play movies off of. If and when i get BT infinity installed, i wouldnt mind getting into the bluray/ps3 scene a bit more.
i got mine here : reboxmods.com - i got the PIC18F chipset version however you can brick it by knackering the bootloader. Go for the : http://www.redboxmods.com/products/Maximus-AVRUSB.html There's LOADS of different version out there, all either closed-USB (like the PS3Break) version OR the USB Development Kit ones - all u need is the device, get the correct hex, load it on - you're away! Make sure you're on FW3.41 - if lower you can upgrade it by downloading seperatley, stick on USB and upgrade that way - DONT upgrade via internet. they are currently NOT downgradable Not saying Sony won't get around it at some point...
I honestly cant see the point in getting copied/cracked shit these days. The amount of deals with supermarket silly prices for brand new exclusives, trading stuff in, generally low prices anyway and the fact that at least 50% of games now are all designed to be played online makes cracking shit a bit pointless imo. I remember paying like 65 quid for StarFox on SNES and stuff like that, now you can pick up most games for around 37 quid from places like Grainger Games and sometimes even less. The flip is you crack stuff, cant play it online, and end up with 10 games which you only play for 5 mins each But guess if i was 15 again I'd still be caning through pretty much everything that come out (via copies) Need to work for a living now tho!
