As a member of the Royal Family I'd like to point out the queen and prince phillip are the only people who receive money from the tax payers, Prince Charles largely supports himself from monies raised from his lands. Also the Queen pays income tax..bet she's praying the lid dems don't get in with their manifesto of 60p in the pound tax for high earners.

They bring in far more in money from tourism than they get from taxpayers, so all in all the country profits from having them.

Thats bull shit people dont coem to the country to see the royals they never meet them.. people would come to london to see the monuments and plaaces regardless if we had a royal family and this conutrys tourism accounts for 0.3% of out income.. which is nowt

Tourism may only account for 0.3%, but how much do you think the Royals get compared to our GDP? Some tourists do come because we still have the Royal family and because Royal residences etc are still in use. Think of all the Americans. Having the Royal family does make economic sense, believe me. The money they get from your personal income tax amounts to way less than a pound a year. There is far more wasted on the armed forces (on unsuitable uniform and equipment for example), the civil service, the health service etc. The amount the Royals get is hardly anything to get upset about.

there has been a lot worse ways to piss away our tax money... the scottish parliment bulding, the NE assembly referendum, the dome, the eurofighter, etc, etc, etc...

they make our pokey, insignificant rainy island in the north sea stand out from the rest...

the royals inadvertently generate a lot of tourism - as has been said, our royal family and the traditions and pomp that goes on around them add a sense of 'romance' to our rainy little isle that clearly draws people to visit.

minus the royals (and thus the 'romance') we turn back into just another little rainy island
