North East Player of The Year Hartlepool's Chris Westwood has been named the North-East's Player of the Year by a regional paper, eclipsing Alan Shearer, Juninho and Geremi. The former Reading centre-back topped the rankings in a survey of sports writers, edging out Middlesbrough's Gareth Southgate and Newcastle's Gary Speed for the main honour. The 26-year-old was also one of four Hartlepool players named in the PFA Third Division Team of the Season.
Re: North East Player of The Year never heard of him, but must be a good player to win and award like that!!!, would have went for our very own alan shearer meself like, cause he's defied odds again and rattled in 20 goals again this season!!!!!
Re: Re: North East Player of The Year I think it is wrong to give an award like that to player in the lower leagues. It should have went to a Boro or Newcastle player
Re: Re: Re: North East Player of The Year Why? Just because he's not high profile? Hartlepool came within a goal of actually winning something this season which is better than any other north east team!
Re: Re: Re: North East Player of The Year hmmmmmmmm.... now then mate - why the hell is that? hardly a valid comment that'un mind... shud goto whoever deserves it - regardless of the league they play in. no score for that'un m8
Maybe they should of had a North East palyer of the season award for the Premiership and one for the 3rd Div, would of been better.
So what was that program I saw either last week or week before where Shearer was awarded north east player of the season?!:spangled:
Re: Re: Re: Re: North East Player of The Year Yeah but they were 15 points clear at the top when Mike Newell took over and when we battered 'em 4-0 with a few games to go they looked v poor! :spangled: I'd have given it to Jenas, I think he's come on leaps and bounds this year
Because I think an award like 'North East Player Of The Year' should go to players @ the top end of there profession & in the North East that means Boro & Newcastle players!!!! Its a shame Newcastle,Boro & Sunderland didnt enter the 3rd division this year as they MAY have won it.
But how m8? Its "North East Player Of The Year" - doesnt that mean anyone playing in the north-east pro leagues can win it? If it was "North Eas Premiership Player Of The Year" etc..then maybe... But a think its really unfair to suggest only top clubs can have anyone eligable to the award.... Its Division-ism!
I think you have to take into account the standard they play at. If all the premiership clubs did bad then yes maybe. But @ Boro there has been Geremi,Greening & Southgate who have all done well @ Newcastle Given,Jenas & Shearer have excellent seasons. I will tell you how good Chris Westwood is his contract is up & the end of the season the only club after him are Sheff Wed!!!!
but boro and newcastle players play against other premiership players... hartlepool play against other 3rd division players... to be fair i think everyone shud be eligable - as they are - and it shud stay that way. if u start singling out lower league players football will die.
To be fair I dont even think Weswood is the 'Pools' player of the year!!! I would have said someone like Gordon Watson. Shearer has been put up for many best player in England awards, Jenas is the best young player in England as voted for by his fellow pros of all leagues. Shearer & Jenas won both Player & young player awards @ Tyne Tees North East Player Of The Year Awards. I would love to know where this award is from I bet its the local Hartlepool paper which if it is YES in the eyes of them he is 'North East Player Of The Year'
