No Name w/Joker (Hyperdub/Kapsize) + More, @ The Tyne. 29/08/09. FREE!! ‘NONAME’ AUGUST 29TH 2009 with JOKER CATHODE RETINA GLITCH TONY DALY NIK BARRERA NOVAK DJ 5pm till 11pm. ----------------------- PROGRAMMED BY NOVAK COLLECTIVE NONAME IS SPONSORED BY BRUGAL RUM & SUPPORTED BY THE TYNE BAR ----------------------- The final NONAME party of the Summer and after the epic set from Jackmaster we are chuffed to present one of the most precocious talents in electronic production - JOKER. Hailing from musically ever vibrant Bristol town Joker, (Kapsize, Hyperdub) was born to Grime and adopted by Dubstep. The 19-year-old Joker refuses to be tagged although, his soul drenched productions have been described as Jehri Curl Boogie and Wiley stuck in an elevator with Cameo. He burst onto the Dubstep and Grime scenes in 2008 with the vibrant ‘Grimey Princess’ and ‘Gully Brook Lane’ which were released on Earwax and Plastician’s Terrorhythm imprint respectively. His productions possess a rare duality in that they are both instantly identifiable yet impossible to classify. His musical peers include Rustie, Gemmy, Guido and Kode 9, the Hyperdub label boss and recognised tastemaker, identified Joker as one to watch when he named him as his protégée for Mary Anne Hobbs’ hugely seminal follow-up to Dubstep Wars, Generation Bass which was broadcast worldwide on BBC Radio 1. Joker and Nomad’s video can be viewed on Youtube and in testament to the level of interest in this Bristolian talent, continues to be the highest viewed video of the Maida Vale session. And to further his admiration for Joker, Kode 9 went on to release via his Hyperdub imprint one of the tunes of 2009, Joker’s “Digidesign” His productions are battered by Djs including Appleblim, Pinch, Plastician and Rustie, he’s been named Pitchfork’s Producer Of The Year and releases on his own imprint, Kapsize, such as “Purple City” and the amazing Rustie collaboration “Play Doe” have sold out in a matter of days! Most recently with fellow Bristolian contemporaries Guido and Gemmy, Joker has been the feature of a major article in the Guardian siting their “Purple” sound as the future of electronic music. www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/jun/12/guido-joker-gemmy-purple-bristol “The next big sound in UK dance music is coming out of the west” THE GUARDIAN “2008 Producer Of The Year” PITCHFORK “Joker is Bristol’s biggest new guy on road” NME “Everyone’s going loopy for Joker” FACT “Immediate Impact” PLAN B Alongside Joker we’ve more than adequate back up. First up the North East's own CATHODE who played a fantastic kraut driven live set last Summer at The Tyne just after the release of his latest album 'Sparkle Plenty'. Steve's is a singular and refined talent and a lovely fella to boot and we are pleased to have him back on the bill at The Tyne. TONY DALY is the part of Suono, the slo-mo disco clan who recently celebrated their 5th Birthday with Dj legend and innovator Greg Wilson. They have been one of the most consistent nights to pursue and push something different musically and have brought to the region amongst others: Kelvin Andrews, Moonboots, Ashley Beedle, Danny Webb, Phil Mison and recently cosmic legend Daniele Baldelli. Tony will do doubt play whatever he wishes and we wouldn't have it any other way... NIK BARRERA who as part of the NONAME team has for a long time been established in the region as a Dj, promoter and creative type.
