    maths person needed (nerdy maths thread)

    in the following:

    Y is supposed to be lambda, e is exponential

    Yu = 10 e(-0.02 x 50)
    Yu = 10 e-1
    Yu = 10 x 0.368
    Yu = 3.68

    where does the 0.368 come from?

    I've tried 10 'exp' -1 on my calculator, and that just gives me 1...

    confused a bit :spangled:

    I have just been informed that i was using exponential where i actually should have been using natural exponent....

    so much clearer now :lol:

    you would have thought my maths, physics and chemistry a-levels might have helped here.

    But it didn't

    Whats the equation supposed to be? I've no idea how they get Yu = 10e-1 = 10 x 0.368 because it doesn't as you say.

    copy and paste?

    :lol:

    e = 2.73 (always..thats the natural exponent, much in the same way that pi = 3.142....always)

    THUS:

    10e(-1) = 10 x (1/2.73)

    e(-1) = 1/2.73
    = 0.366

    10 x 0.366 = 3.66

    ET VOILA.

    aye - apparently the "exp" can be different depending on the calculator manufacturer :confused:

    At least that way is guaranteed to be right, even if it does take a few more steps :D
