    Love Parade 2002

I heard that you guys (Foundation) were instrumental in getting the 2001 Love Parade brought to Newcastle.

Sadly, as we all know, the event was cancelled at the last minute.

HOWEVER, Newcastle council's website said they would try again for this year.

Will you guys be playing any part in bringing this massive event to the glorious city of nightlife that is Newcastle?

I hope Newcastle becomes the permanent place for the UK Love Parade. It would really put us on the map! We do deserve it. Noone parties harder than a geordie, but other than Promise there is little in the way of trance and house up here.

If anyone has any news on this year's event, please put it here!!

After last year's performance by the council, I think they'd be EXTRA careful they didn't mess it up this time. So much would be at stake. If they messed up a second time they'd be the most hated council in Britain.

Give us another chance I say. It was only some silly little disagreement between the council and the police, that could easily be prevented this time.

Newcastle can throw one hell of a party. Let Newcastle be the home of the Love Parade! :)

i doubt radio 1 will have anything to do with Newcastle council after last year, but it would be good if they tried to have it again.
but i cant wait for them to have another one as the the one in Leeds was one of the best/maddest days ive ever had.....

    We can always try!

Surely radio 1 must have the sense to realise it was only a minor squabble between the police and the council.

What actually did prevent the 2001 Parade anyway? All I remember is they failed to get permission from the police or something really trivial. Surely all they need to do this time is get permission and then party away???

Hell, it's worth a try! I reeeeally wanna see some big events in Newcastle this year!

Basically they didnt have half the things organised, that they said they did, no security, no park and ride, they took it on without relising how much had to be planned in so little time..

    Beer and football is great.

Besides, the Love Parade would involve beer. Think of the revenue the pubs would get, and the after parties!!!

    OK - RANT!

If the Love Parade happens in the UK again, it will happen in Newcastle or not at all.

But then, I'm not sure how many of the promotors would want to get involved as it screwed a lot of people over.

Not going to get into the whole was to blame blah blah blah 'cause it's boring. The council were cunts though.

In all honesty, I can see something like last year's events happening again, but not a Love Parade. It's gained too many negative associations which is a real shame. But the problems that surround it have roots which are far deeper than the fuck ups of last July. Clubbing has never had positive press except from it's own quarters. In the public domain, Clubs and Dance music are all Shock! Sun headlines and slappers on Ibiza Uncovered.

Hopefully, events like Shindig's party on the quayside will help open the city's eyes to the fact that we are a community ourselves yet part of thecommunity too. Get people to realise that THIS IS PEOPLE'S LIVES and not just somewhere for people to get pissed after closing time.

Work at it from the inside and show the city that there's more to Geordie youth than getting pissed and watching fucking football. This shouldn't become a them and us situation which is what happened last summer. The council is supposed to support us and if they don't try and make them understand why.

...then point out how much revenue our collective scenes can generate.
