Home CCTV Anyone use this? Some little bastards thought it would be funny to nick the top box off my mams car on NYE and smash it in a nearby garden and it's gonna cost her over £90 for a new one. She's asked me to find a 'decent enough' cctv setup preferably to stream to our pc as it's not the first time the cars have been damaged in one way or another in the past year. has anyone got any recommendations or guidlines for price range? A £9.99 webcam kinda thing is obviously gonna be pointless but we don't really wanna be forking out hundreds either.
why dont you be a man and have a walk around ure area late and night and start questioning kids and start hitting them
you can do it via webcam or digicam, and depending on the camera and conditions you can usually get a good image out of it. Juski had something similar happen at his a while back when some cunt kept kicking the wing mirror off the car and he caught him on tape. If you're savvy with linux you can use this to record multiple webcams or proper CCTV cameras onto a PC. Plus you can stream it out on the net.
I can't see a webcam being of much use in a night time situation, plus the camera would need to be suitable for outdoor use due to the placement of the cars. I've seen one on ebay for about £180 which has 12x zoom, pan function, night vision etc. A motion sensitive light used in conjunction with a standard non-NV camera would probably save a bit of money though. I need to sort out an automatic gun turret too if anyone knows some dodgy folk?
you can pick up dead cheap systems at gadget shops that run through ya VCR like, PC wise - see the above post. it means that you'll have to have a shitload of HDD space for the recording's tho - and the fact that you'll have to keep on top of them too. a motion sensor might be advisable to keep the recording time to a minimum rather than 24-7. with said light and gun turrent also
I don't know how much hdd space it would require personally. It's not going to be anywhere near DVD quality video I know that and with a PIR function it will only record when motion is detected like you say so i doubt hdd space would be a problem. It cost pennies per GB these days anyway so I'm sure something could be arranged
