    HEFC Courses

    Has anyone here done one?

I've had enough of pissing about workwise, earned some good money but often not in fantastic conditions, and if I'm honest I'm feeling a bit pissed off at working round places and numb cunts getting promotions simply because they've been there longer, when it's me whose done the hard graft and made the decisions on their behalf.

So I'm going back to school, so to speak... I never done A Levels so I'm looking at doing this access course through Northumbria, with a view to starting a Construction Management degree next sept.

Got some leaflets here, but would like to hear from the horses mouth about what the crack is, so could anyone whose done one get in touch please! Also like to hear opinions about the choice of degree course, I think Construction Management is a good alrounder, but I'm open to opinions regarding that and Building Surveying options.

    Ta!

I think you are about 24, I went back to Uni at 24 and it was a great decision. All the 17/18 year olds think you are well cool and a proper man of the world  Used to piss me off when none of the nerds in my class could drink more than 4 pints between classes without spewing

go for it but prepare for a few years of being skint as youll be used to have a bit of wonga from working

(obviously this only applies if you dont live at home etc)

I do Quantity Surveying at Northumbria and have just finished my years work placement, the jist i got from the blokes on site was that you can only learn project management up to a certain extent, alot of it has to do with your experience and knowledge of how construction sites work, something they can't teach you at uni. So if i was recommending one of the two i would go for building surveying as there's a very good chance of getting a job at the end of it.
You should have a look into applying to construction companies to sponsor you through uni, they'll pay your course fees then you've got a guaranteed job at the end.

    Si

I've got about 6 years experience on-site, and have worked at the bottom and also alongside the gaffers so I'll always have that with me, was looking at either project management side of things or on the other hand the building surveyor route as opposed to a QS, something I don't really fancy tbh.

    Cheers people.

Well your sorted then mate go for the project management, building surveying is for mongs anyway, proper rugby crack from the building surveying lads when we went away in 1st year, shaving each others pubes off, downing pints and then turning the glass upside down and putting it on their head, putting willys up each other...the usual rugby thing.

I'll hold out a bit longer if Shindig want to offer me a job as their Promotions Manager, but it looks unlikely at the minute.

So I am going to have to take 3 modules, 1 of which needs to be quantitive methods. It says a minimum of 3 hours a week study time at my chosen college, but how many hours can I expect to spend in the classroom a week?
